Dynomax Silencer
Hello guys,

I was wondering if this happened to anyone else, or if it is simply bad luck and I got a faulty part.

I installed a Dynomax super turbo high flow silencer on my car, along with a resonator, and it sounded great, not loud and it was not raspy.
That was about 4-5 months ago.

So about 2 months ago I started noticing a raspy sound around 3000-4000 rpm, and before or after that sounded good.
So right now, the raspy sound is getting worse, and anything past 3K rpm and to the rev limiter the raspy sound is getting worse. This is my daily driver, and it does not see the rev limiter often, but that raspy sound is getting worse as time passes.

Has this happened to anyone?

Maybe adding a second resonator might do the trick, but I am curious as to why the performance of the silencer degraded so much and so fast, since I know that the raspy sound is not normal, since when I installed it, it was working great.

This is a car that rarely sees revs over 4000 rpm.

I tried doing a research on this, but no one seems to be discussing the durability on these silencers, or this has not happened to anyone else.

Thank you

May just be the product.. My friend had a VT on his turbo elantra and it literally lasted a month or 2 before the spring broke for the valve lol...

It's likely that the packing has lost some of it's absorptive qualities. The "buzzing" that you are hearing is some of the high frequency noise generated by the reactive portion of the muffler, which is no longer being absorbed.

I have the dynomax and one of the baffles inside it must have broken and now everytime at idle it sounds like you have a quarter in a glass jar, and are rattling it around. PITA

resonators and silencers do have a break-in period as well...may just be that

Sounds like the guts have rotted out or broken apart prematurely. My 11 yr old HKS just started the same thing, and it'll drive you nuts!

Check the flanges and gaskets to make sure you don't have a leak from coming loose.

I did a "test leak" on th rest of the muffler by sealing with the hand the exhaust and there are no apparent leaks from the rest of the muffler

I guess I will have to deal with the sound for some time, and if it keeps getting worse I will probably purchase a magnaflow or something like that.
I am looking at some of the products the VRS sells.
Dynomax is cheap but not that good I guess

You sure its genuine dynomax? I've had pretty good luck with their stuff. Magnaflow is good too and its generally a step up. But Dynomax has been a good brand for me.

Maybe others experience varies?
