Well let me tell you what happened to my car - at a stoplight while driving, the car stalled. Would not start up again. I even tried to push start it, had help rolling it down hill to prob like 20mph, popped the clutch in 2nd gear, and it stopped the car dead in it's tracks when the clutch was released. Still dead. Got it towed to a shop and the alternator was seized up. New alternator and all good
Thats different than his symptoms, hence why I said that. More than likely your starter solenoid was actuating, his was not.
