nickel plating
Does anyone know a shop that does nickel plating (nikasil)? I've got a porsche 944 turbo motor at the shop that needs to be replated and I can't find a shop anywhere that does it. I'm trying to avoid buying a shortblock from porsche $$$$

Any shop that does chrome should be able to do nickle. Hell it's part of the chroming process.

Dude, 2 seconds on google and I have a chrome shop right in your back yard.

Kentucky Chrome Works

High Tech Chrome Plating

FYI, since metals like copper and nickle have been going up expect the price to be pretty far up there from about 6 years ago. Not to metion if the block needs to have an acid bath you are going to need a machine shop to go over the block once you are done with the plating. Last thing you want is obstructions in your cooling and oil passage ways. Sure you already know that, just putting it out there.

not that simple guys. Most people won't deal with automotive. They actually have to measure to make sure they don't put it on too thick or not thick enough. If I get the block back and it's too tight there's nothing I can do. You can't hone it or anything...

Thanks for the links kcobabe. I've already contacted one of them to no avail but i'll try the wheel shop as well although I'm not very optimistic about it.

I got an estimate back in 02 for a crap load of parts on the S30 I was doing. I can't remember the name of the damn shop, but it's the one they used for all of the Powerblock shows on Spike. It's like Santa Ana Plating or something like that. I know they do blocks because they did one for one of those shows.

California has tons and tons of plating companies.

Nikasil is not just chrome or nickel plating, it's nickel silicon carbide, so most chrome or nickel platers will not do this.
Nikasil is a registered trademark owned by Mahle, but there are other nickel silicon carbide platers with different trade names.

Here are 2 places for you, unfortunately not close to Kentucky:
Try this place in Plymouth, WI:
Cylinder Plating Technology - Millennium Technologies
Another place in Fond du Lac, WI:
Cylinder Plating | Honing | Repair | Re-Plating | Big Bore Kit | US Chrome Inc Cylinder Repair Company
