broke tranny
This is what happened to my tranny launching at track. Is there a good "how to" take tranny apart thread someone could point me to? I have another tranny with a good case so I was thinking about swapping cases. Is this a difficlut task? Also it is stuck in first gear and cant move the shifter arm.

Just for the sake of this thread, how much power where you putting down? Also did you have much wheel hop?

I dont think you need a 'how to' for tranny disassembly, looks like you did it already

Thats damn impressive dude. I mirror Vadim's curiosity.

I havent been to the dyno but I was only pushing 10psi on ebay T3/T4 turbo, 370s, Z32, etc stock motor. It had the worst wheel hop I had ever felt and ripped every single mount...

Im not sure what to do, I wanna take it apart and see if the insides are still good. It was stuck in first gear so I actually drove it back up on the trailer lol

10psi on t3/4 that's over 300whp right?

I haven't found a detailed "How To" for swapping transmission cases. It is a pretty simple job though. You shouldn't have any problems. You'll just need to pay attention to what you're missing in the new case and make sure you swap it over from the old case. There are a few springs and rods and pieces that are maybe easy to forget but since you have an assembled transmission in front of you it should be pretty easy. You'll want to have a couple snap ring pliers on hand but that's the only special tool you'll need. Okay maybe an improvised drift for removing the selector rod if you have to do that. The shift linkage and gear stacks are just bolted down and come out very easily. The final drive/diff just lifts out.

The 5th gear pop-out thread at least has some pics to show what you're dealing with. And describes a little bit on how to work with the case.

swapping cases is easy but you must pay attention to the end bearings. if they are too tight you will kill the gear stack. The specs can be found in the fsm.

Your gears should be fine. It probably got locked up because the case tweaked. Swapping gears is cake on the b13/b14 trannies. Just set everything aside the way it came off. The most difficult part (and not that difficult is putting the shift linkages onto the shift forks and shifter rod. But again its not hard. Just look at the way it came off and you can easily do it.

Ive done the same to a trans. Wheel hop is a killer of the b13 trannies man. You need to get some prothane mounts if you dont have them already but if you said the mounts ripped then im doubting you have prothanes.

That will solve a lot of your wheel hop issues. Guaranteed.
