Locating scrap or salvage yard parts cars....?
Total newb inquiry......

I am searching the Houston area for some interior items to finish off my Restoration. I have never been to a scrap-yard, Parts You Pull It, or any other type of auto salvage business. Not a single time in my life.

Nor can I find any threads on the subject.

Specifically I need the headliner panel (to be completely re-covered), the "oh sh*t" handles, related fasteners/hardware, and a complete dome light assembly.

How the hell do you figure out where, at which scrap-yard, they would have a 91-94 Sentra two-door hard-top in order to go pull the parts I need?

I got this link out of my original "accident" thread on the SR20Forum.

Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market

And I found a couple of headliners, a long-ass way from me, and I can tell you that shipping a headliner via UPS is about $120.00. Plus UPS would probably fold, spindle, and mutilate it before it ever arrived in Houston.

Please give me some tips, pointers, or links on how you guys locate B13's in junkyards. Also, besides tools and money, any other things I need to bring or know in advance?

Thanks,

Shawn B

You need to goto LKQ pick a part Houston Locations . They have an old model and newer model yards. Last time I was there I saw plenty of B13 1.6 sentras. I'm on a search for a 5spd tranny myself since mine has only 1,2 gear working.

When u go to a salvage yars its usually hit or miss, if you have one close its not that bad to waste the time.

Just locate a u-pull it local/somewhat local. Most dont keep inventory so you go and hope you find what you need.

Awesome. Thank you.

I *believe* any 91-94 2-door Sentra hardtop should suffice as my parts donor.

Thanks VQ, but that does not address my initial post.

I wanna know from qualified scrap-yard hunters, how they go about their business.

Shipping is next to impossible due to the dimensional weight, and even more prohibitive in my case is the ability of UPS to actually ship it without destroying it.

Gotta be within 60 miles so I can pick it up in my Tahoe.

Just a bit.

The headliner panel I source needs to be in good physical shape and unbroken. Not to mention piss-free.

1) Tools. Shouldn't take that much to remove a headliner/accessories.

2) Money. Cash I assume. Do they even take Visa/Amex?

3) Sun-screen (Irish, we're pasty and pissed).

4) Large-sized cold beverage....or two.

5) Tahoe to haul it home.

Anything else I need to add to my list for equipment/supplies in a scrapyard?

No kiddin'?

OK. Then that is the plan apparently. My first expedition shall happen shortly. I figure M-F will be less busy by far than the weekends (?). And I am off all week.

I'll check out those local yards posted above via linky.

Thanks guys.

Do it.

I'll pay you for them regardless of whether I have you ship them or not.

I'll go looking on Tuesday or Wednesday morning and see what I can find local.

If I find them and a headliner panel, I'll reimburse you for the ones you pull and you can keep them.

Those items could easily be missing or broken from whatever parts cars I locate.
