another sunroof issue thread
Hey guys, a new issue popped up yesterday. Kind of a big issue. I opened my sunroof on my b13, and I cannot close it again. This means it is in the full open position, not the propped up position. The motor still makes noise when I switch it to the open position, but it doesn't make noise when i switch it to the close position. I think part of this is my fault actually. When I redid the sunroof, I also redid the sunroof slider. This new fabric is a lot thicker than the old fabric, and so sometimes I would have to "help" the sunroof open and close because of the lack of space in there. And now, it is a real problem. I don't think it's a fuse because the motor still makes noise in one direction. I tried pulling on it a little and didn't budge. Please don't tell me I have to rip apart the panels and headliner again. I need this done ASAP before it rains. I'm screwed when it rains. Could something be wrong with the switch? Happy Easter btw.

Nevermind. Actually, I'm a bold-face liar. I just went out to try it again, and it worked, flawlessly. Must be bad connection or moisture in the switch. Whatever it was, it is fine now. Well i won't be opening the sunroof again. Maybe i'll just stick to proping it open. Thread can end as quickly as it began

Something similar happened to my B14. I re-did the headliner and sunroof slider. My problem was not the thickness of the fabric, it was the switch itself. It did not work for the close position. Anyways, there is a small screw under the sunroof motor which you can turn to open or close your sunroof manually. You dont have to remove all your panels for the headliner. In this case, only unscrew the sunvisors, rear view mirror, remove the trim around the doors, around the sunroof opening and you will be able to reach the sunroof motor without removing the entire headliner. You only has to bend it a little. Dont worry, if you do it carefully you are not going to damage your headliner. Good luck!

happened to me once, just take the switch out and use some electric contact cleaner and clean the switch on the inside and will work perfect again! Good Luck!

Wow, old thread of mine. To answer your question joelosr20, you must buy the sunroof as a whole, glass and all. They don't sell it separate, sorry. My weatherstripping is bad too but not bad enough to justify the cost of a new sunroof.
