Evap core removal tip, mine was wedged in pretty good, the "wiggle" was more like a "beat the crap out of it" till it comes out kinda thing lol.

Isfahan- thanks for the help, I did have the main lines out it just needed some more effort. I was worried about breaking something and was just being too easy on it.

Advice for the rest, its not as bad as I thought it would be. It was worth the time and $16 for the can of a/c flush. Total with valve was just over $33. I would have spent 2 labor hours, roughly $160 at a shop to replace the exp valve. That money can go to the exhaust project.

I will post some pics later today, just to give a little better understanding on the evap core basics.

not to bring this thing back from the dead and I have read every single post in it. I am just wondering since I have a retro fitted a/c system and my compressor is making noise at idle. It also cycles every 20 seconds or so but blows ice cold especially on the interstate. I do not want to get into thousands of dollars trying to retro fit the whole system but could you get by with just replacing the compressor, condenser and dryer?

I looked at courtesy parts and they have whole parts listed for r134a systems including

evap sensor
evap core
r134a compressor
condenser
dryer

basically the whole system and by the way NAPA and Oreillys both list the nvr140s compressor as rated for r12 and r134a. thx

I don't understand. You have retrofitted your car with a/c, so you have R12, or R134a? And your compressor is making noise? You mean like a clunking sound that indicates the clutch is about to go? Mine made very loud squeals before it seized. And when it died, it killed the car until I put a belt on to bypass the compressor.

So, I'm presuming you are running R12 and your compressor is on the way out. I am currently running pretty much everything R12, with a R134a compressor and dryer. Maybe my evap core is R134a, I forget as I got it from the junkyard. If you switch to R134a, make sure you change the o-rings, the compressor, and the dryer. The condenser is fine, but an R134a one would be bigger and thus better for cooling, but it probably isn't worth the expense if yours is still functional. Oh and since your system is still holding pressure, make sure you take it someplace to drain the system properly as it is some nasty stuff. Put the new parts on it, flush it, pressure test it, and put the R134a in.

thanks for the reply. It was professionally retrofitted (if you call it that) by a shop who transformed it from R12 to R134a (all they did is modify the lines with fittings, vacuumed the system and recharged it to 80 percent with r134a). It works great and cools good it is just when the car is at normal operating temperature and at idle the compressor grinds a little so I need an r134a compressor and the dyer. I could replace the condenser that is not that big of a deal and the compressor looks simple enough. Relieve belt tension on the tension guide at the top right corner on the engine and then disconnect everything. I think my compressor is gonna take a tank soon or it could be just the higher pressures of r134a causing it to make noise either way. I would like it not to cycle so much and be more efficient. Sorry if I was not very clear with this but I am not an a/c expert by any means.

i finished putin my girls a/c in, compressor, condenser and all lines. a real pain in the ass but worth every minute for the ice cold a/c.

Had my a/c working great for about 2 days then the new high pressure hose broke in 2!

I had also installed a new high pressure switch and pretty much everything else so I know there are no clogs in the system. New expansion valve was installed and I flushed the evap core.

This is pretty crazy, anyone had this happen or have a clue as to why? Im guessing defective hose, but just seems kinda hard to believe plus I had blown the old high pressure hose last year before replacing the whole system.

Help! I really dont want to waste another expensive high pressure hose. Thanks!

I replaced everything the first time and my system has been fine. All my notes are on the first couple of pages.

Oh, I know brother. Its been my A/C Bible lol!

Yeah ive got to go meet the parts mgr today at Gwinnett Nissan so they can verify the parts and hope they replace the hose under warranty. It was only on the car a few days and I had replaced everything else so im sure they will take care of it.

That's really strange. Maybe you filled it up too much under too high pressure? Did you follow FSM psi specs when refilling?
