So this ^^ is a better video of the sound. It only does it when the car is warming up, and I'm back thinking its NOT the turbo. STi intercooler going on today, then I'm gonna get it tuned... thinking of using;

Equilibrium Tuning, Inc.

They have good reviews and I'm told they will use the Tactrix cable and not just make me buy a Cobb and then gently massage the off the shelf map but actually tune the car.

Ok... wow that's a lot of intercooler.

Before for comparison

I had it rigged up with the stock coupler but it kept blowing off like Eric was saying, I got the stock IC mostly squared away with a coupler I got on the internedz but you can see the compressor out was still off.

Whoa holy fawking boost. I took it out to the coast today for a surf and boy does it go. First time in months its had a new/good turbo, and no boost leaks.

Reeeeeally need a tune so I don't blow it up.

Wait didn't you say it was running like crap before? I just got my VF39, thanks to @Keo, I plan on running it with stock IC (Unless it's cracked). Or FMIC (OH NOES NOT THE LAG! :rofl.

I'm really curious on what needs to be done on the tune end for the bigger turbo. On SR20's, doing a T28 swap doesn't make that much of a difference, maybe little more down low timing because of slower spool. Maybe richer AFR's.

@Vadim The compressor is longer on the VF39 which puts the stock y-pipe at an angle and the TMIC won't fit or bolt back down. I considered a kit off eBay like this one;

Aluminum Top Mount Intercooler Tmic Y Pipe 02 07 Subaru Impreza WRX STI Blue | eBay

But then was like.. WTF man do it right.

FMIC is kind of a PITA and not necessary.

Subarus need a tune for everything technically.

There some WRX piping kits for FMIC's, the extra length could help with some turbo lag (to avoid always being in boost at 70-75mph). Thing is FMIC piping plus eBay FMIC cost less then an STI TMIC does, but FMIC brings so much more power to the table. Heat soak sucks.

I need to start looking into how these ECU's work and why they are so picky. It's definitely annoying that it's a MAF'ed car yet you have to treat it like a speed density car.

Well have fun with the FMIC. I'm hoping to diagnose my mystery noise before I tune. Made the appointment with the tuner today. Ed at Equilibrium seemed pretty cool.

He said it could be done at stock boost with stock injectors and fuel pump but really pushed for a boost controller. Hallman Pro RX is what they use apparently.

Are you planning on running more boost? STI turbo at 11-12 psi should make more power then the TD-04.

I dunno if I would bother with FMIC on the Fozz, I really only bought the STI turbo in preparation of the stock turbo failing. I kind of like not having to worry about modding at least one car in my collection...

Since boost is controlled by the ECU, it always wants the ramp up the same, and will adjust things to get it's way. With just the turbo swap and no tuning, I made 230whp, but was down to 205whp a few weeks later when I was tuned.

I'm running 15psi and it's stupid in 1st and 2nd gear. He might not be able to do that with CA 91.

Gotcha, now I saw WRX guys had to do some things with pills (air restrictor for WG?) We don't have to worry about that right?
