06 nissan altima floor rotted !
Ok this is the third case of this ive seen on these body style altima's this particular one is the worst of them . This car was at my shop for a brake inspection and when i put it up on the lift i got a suprise as I gave it a wack and a big chunk of rot fell off ! This car is a 2006 3.5v6 and has only 89k miles and was bought new in PA but i would assume souther cars would not have this issue. So this is a warning to all buying these to probe around the front floors under the car ...

Pics:

Passenger side .. Note the white area in the middle of the rot is the bottom of the passenger side rug !

Driver side ...

Make sure that's not a chopped car, they tend to rust in those areas.

Holy chit. Someone A: Didn't take care of their car B: didn't care to winterize the car C: Doesn't care because they don't know any better.

Thats what Im saying . Compared to other altimas of the same years they metal is thin and the galvanize or under coating is not as good as it should be . Agai. This must be a issue in the great NE area due to road salting . There is drain like hole where the rot problem is . You can see there is two layers of thin sheet metal the appear to get water in there and just rot away . Throw in salt and you git your self a rot bucket in no time !

This is why i tell people all the When you live up here in the great north east and buy a new or used car to undercoat the crap out of the under carage . It shouldnt cost you more then $25 worth of rubber under coat . My new nissan xterra got 4 cans of coating underneath . I sprayed everthing like ..brake lines , frame , rear end , fuel lines, shock bolts ,body mounts , gas tank straps , ect ect .

I really attribute a lot it to the new calcium salt they are using on these roads. It is brutal. Funny my Maxima does not have it though (crosses fingers)

Consumer complaints about Nissan Altima

Robbie of Palatine, IL on Dec. 30, 2011

Satisfaction Rating: 1/5

The '02 Altima is rusted through on the passenger floor. Nissan is aware that the sound dampening material used on the floor holds moisture and promotes rust. This is a safety issue they are ignoring until the cost to ignore it becomes greater than the cost of the recall. Someone will likely die because of the manufacturer defect. Rust has always been the biggest problem with owning a Nissan product. They need to address this issue in a responsible way
