OK, here you go. The SR20 has finer teeth, the N1 is slightly longer throw.

Why oh why did they make the N1 tensioner? The coarse teeth seem like a downgrade and did they really need 1mm more of throw? Sometimes Nissan baffles me.

As always, Greg takes perfect technical pics every time.

Thanks Ben. For some reason I remembered the N1 as having the finer teeth, but i guess I was wrong. Yeah, make you wonder, huh? But I guess, as to where it pushes on the guide, 1mm throw would equal more than that, like a fulcrum.

The N1 tensioner was made for more throw likely to take up the extra slack in the chain from the head shave. That's just a "best guess" though.

For the record..the tensioner that came in my W10 DET is the same as the N1.

Actually, it's probably the old style SR20 one. Although I guess if it was ever replaced (like the Japanese do any maintenance!) it might be the n1.

It's the new style. Maybe it was replaced at some point.

If by old style you mean N1 style..then yes. It's exactly the same in every way. It's even the same greenish color.

Look at the head of the tensioner, it's the new style. Tell me what I'm missing.

One on the left is the old style..looks nothing like the picture I posted. Unless there's a third tensioner with the bigger oil reserve on top of the tensioner...

Having said that, it's very possible my tensioner was replaced at some point with this N1 tensioner as my car has a timing chain issue. I'd need someone else to confirm the Avenir motors came w/the same tensioner.
