OEM or aftermarket muffler options
Current setup is a Bluebird DET with an HKS exhaust. In my opinion, this is the perfect exhaust for me, it's nice and quiet, however, the muffler is starting to show it's age, most of the packing is gone, there's a hole on the bottom, and it sounds like a pinata when you shake it. Even with the muffler in this condition, the car still maintains its quietness.

I'd like to replace just the rear section or muffler, but every universal onw I find is quite a bit smaller. The HKS case measures somewhere around 10x7x20, and I'm not finding many options in that size, mostly 5x8 or 5x9. Plus, I like the OEM appearance of it.

I've seen some guys use the STI muffler, which is one option, but has anyone tried any other OEM mufflers? Something with an inlet of 2 3/8" or 2.5"?

Hmm, just looked up some pics of that one and the inlet is on the side of the muffler, can you get some pics of it on the car?

I have used magnaflow, vibrant stealth, and Apexi WS2. They are listed loudest to quietest.(all on 3" systems)

Apexi is quiet? Cool. Anyone have any video/audio clips of the STi muffler on an SR20? I have the stock exhaust on my car but have a full 2.5" Greddy catback exhaust but no muffler for it sitting around, and I like the quietness of it right now

The WS2 is twice the size of the vibrant.ut that probably the only Apexi thats even somewhat quiet.

My ws2 was quieter wot but droned like a mother when cruising compared to the vibrant (this is all NA though). Apexi was also a cop magnet just because big tip and shiny.

I have a NA DE with bolt-ons. Everything 2.5" in/out, mandrel bent exhaust, oem cat, Magnaflow resonator as big as would fit, and a Vibrant Stealth muffler.

I absolutely love the innocuous appearance, however the Vibrant is definitely not quiet enough for me.

I will be upgrading from the single Magnaflow resonator to two (2) Vibrant Ultra Resonators shortly.

Hopefully with the dual resonators (and the upcoming turbo-system) my car will once again be less conspicuous and aurally attention grabbing.

Interested in other folks input on subdued and inconspicuous 2.5 in/out mufflers.

The turbo will go a long way in quieting things down on its own too Shawn.

weird.mines quieter than the vibrant cruising,no drone, but louder WOT....and I agree about the cop magnet I am thinking of BBQ black on the WS2 for that reason.
