Shux. I have seen a few k20s around here making tons of power, but they are all on E85 or q16. It seems like the honda guys go really big on these motors. If the VE motor flows even within 30cfm of these motors then it should be able to make power in the same range. I love the k motors but they don't make the powerband I like in a daily driver. 300whp with only 185lb ft of torque is not my forte. I want to see 500whp with more than 400lb ft of torque.

You are doing something wrong.

Manny SR20VE-T @ 24 PSI made 524 WHP and 434 LB Ft Torque

My friend Nicks SR20VE-T @ 18 PSI made 460 WHP at 385 Lb Ft Torque

Greg's SR20VE-T made 515 WHP and 425 LB Ft Torque.

Glens's SR20VE-T @ 15 PSI made 390 WHP and 310 Lb Ft Torque


All of these cars were on individual runner exhaust manifolds.

I have said it many times.


As for the K20 motor I am also good friend with the people Andreas is talking about. Making 500+ whp on stock motors is nothing to them.

This car does have pistons and rods in it as of recent. Other than that it is stock. This car ran for a very long time on a 100% stock motor and it was in the low 500's.

The VE head can flow as well as the K20, my head was ran on two different flow benches the recent one read lower but then it was past 350CFMs still. The nice thing is work can still be done on it. This tis he first VE head that has this much work done on it for the first time so more can still be had. I talked to Mike K here at the SERCA convention and he said my head killed his 20V head everywhere... I concentrated working the VE head to its max since I want an engine, a full race one that is, to run efficiently. I want my motor to run 750whp at 15-18psi instead of adding more boost.

Depending on the valve seats you can still use stock seats with OS valves, of course your head guy has to figure it out.

For a simple setup with a good punch I would do OS valves off the shelf and mild port. Should get you hight 200s to 300. I know of a stock VE head that flowed almost 280, too bad it was cut in half for R&D though.

i do not consider the k series internals overly strong imo, yeah sure plenty make over 500whp and the heads are the bomb, but how often do they run it at that level.

now the 2jz, theres an engine you can run 9's on a completely unopened block, very robust

We are on 4 bangers here.

We are talkig SR20VEs and how they compare to K20 motors.

We are on 2L Vs 2L

Where did the Toyota 2JZ 3L inline 6 come from.

I dont mean it as an insult but stay on topic.

simple 500whp setup and probably could take more...GTiR short block with VE Head.

Well head flow is all about what you do to the head.

A stock SR20VE head does not come close to out flowing a 20V head.

I would also think that at the end of the day if the same amount of port work was done they would be close but the 20V head with the smaller valve stems would still have the advatage in this area but I guess the same could be done to the standard head.

Anyway. Why not try and get a 20V head for turbo use as it does have way better knock resistance than the standard SR20VE head due to more water above the combustion chamber.

Are any of these guys running a "500"hp turbo? I made 361whp on 16psi, revving only to 7500rpm with a smaller turbo than these guys. The SC61 that Manny ran was way bigger than my turbo.

Just throwing this stuff out there.
On the stock VE cams I made 248whp on 10psi without the cams switching. As soon as I switched the cams I made only 230whp.

I know now that the VET cams have to be used on smaller turbo setups, but I would like to see how far these can go before I need to upgrade back to the 20ve setup. Where the VE is at right now it makes about the same power as the b18C guys around here boost for boost. 10psi now is 310whp. With a tubular manifold who knows what she will do. I still have the stock cams and I will test those too.

If only I had Daxx's head and a gt4202R...
