26's may be way too tall.

I want to avoid going into 5th gear to cross finish.

I believe I should be shifting at 6.5k since thats where my peak HP is.

Thing is the tire is too tall. It's not a matter of gearing it's a matter of the car having enough power to get there with such a tall tire. Also if your car peaks at 6500 it doesnt mean where that's where you want to shift it. What I mean is if you shift at peak power then when the RPM's drop they may put you a in portion of the power band where the car is not making enough power and it will hurt it more to shift at peak. So you may want to go pass peak so that when you shift the car it will land in a sweet spot. I would go up to 7500 at a minimum.

I say they are too tall a tire. Big HP cars usually run 24.5's.

I make peak torque at 4.5 - 5.5k and shifting at 6.5k should put it right in the sweet spot...

but then again im a noob at such things.
peak torque is 350-355 ft lbs

I dont really like 7500. I dont want to risk throwing rockers, and the power falls quickly after 6.5k b/c of the 260deg cams. ( still have a bluebird DET )

How much power does your car make?

Anything under 450 wheel in my opinion should run on a 23" tire. If I remember you have a T-28 size turbo? With that said I would shift around 7200-7500 and run a 23 x 8 x 13 slick.

At 7500 I highly doubt you will spit out rocker arms. I use to rev my DE's out with S4 cams on a big shot of nitrous to 7800 with no issues at all.

rob has the right idea. you dont make even close to enough power for a 26. a 23" tire has me holding 4th out over the line

The gearing in 3rd - 5th is a shorter in the 6 speed compared to the 5 speeds.

I guess I'll find out next month when the slicks get here and I get them mounted.
