SlowBoyRacing...you be the judge
I will give you the facts on what happened...you be the judge

I decided to purchase a turbo from them when they announced a black friday sale, where they would beat anyones prices. I replied to that thread asking if they had garrett t3t04e's, he said they did. Once the turbo arrived I was puzzled to see ZERO markings that would distinguish it as a garrett. The compressor housing has nothing on it...and looks as if something was filed off of it, no badge on it anywhere. The exhaust housing is a turbonetics. The center section, again badge less, it is supposed to be a garrett center section...but how would i know Some pics of the turbo

As you can see, the only marking on it was the turbonetics emblem on the exhaust housing. The only thing i could find was Kinetic Motor sports on the installation instructions.

So, i pm'ed him asked him if there was anyway he could verify it indeed had a garrett center section. He informed me that all kinetic products are made by garrett, and to look at there site to see them as one of the nations six distributors.

I could not find any information on garretts site about them being a distributor, so i ask him again, to confirm this with a link to where it is on garrets site.

The next pm, was him telling me they do not sell knockoffs and that they had a 2 year lawsuit with turbochargers.com for them saying they did. He again informed me they only sell genuine garrett turbos, and that it was a custom turbo because it didn't come with the bolt pattern i asked for. He sends me this link, saying it's what i got, but in a t3, and to notice how it says garrett center section. http://www.slowboyracing.com/estore/product.php?productid=9&cat=0&page=1

Next...the part number on the box

The only identifying mark on it was a part number on the box that it arrived in, KN50363-4. Which matches this turbo...follow the link...

http://www.kineticmotorsport.com/products/Kinetic_Motorsport_T3_T4E_50_Trim-689-205.html

When i brought these things to sbr's attention i was just told over and over again that they used a garrett center section in the turbo. So...I decided to email kinetic motor sports and ask them if it does use a garret center section, had they said yes, this case would of been closed, but they told me NO, they are in house turbos, using top shelf parts, but not garrett center sections. So, when slowboy told me kinetic was one of the 6 distributors for garrett, and that they only use garrett center sections, was false.

That was enough for me, i wanted a refund, i didn't believe slowboy, too many things didn't add up for me. but, there is always a but, if i wanted to return it i was told i would be charged a 20% restocking fee. Since i didn't want to pay that, i was stuck with the turbo.

That is my story, that is strictly the facts, if slow boy wants to challenge any of the items in my story, i have the emails and the pm's to back them all up.

I will not use slowboy ever again. You be the judge...

I had a similar issue with them recently. I ordered a regular GTIR T28 and I got a GT28R (after 16 days of waiting for a tracking number). The only reason why I didn't send it back is because I got it for the same price of the T28 and I have no time to be sending back **** and on top of that I had to send xtra money to cover for shipping cost.

They have 0 communication skills and I would NEVER buy or refer them to anybody.

I had an issue with them a while back, but it was regarding cams not a turbo. I had ordered BC stage 2s and they sent me stage 3s. It took SBR a few days to answer my PMs and emails, so I just called them directly and talked to whoever dealt with the forum over there. I was told that they had messed up my order, and they were shipping out the proper cams from their stock in a day or two so I should just send mine back to them and they would reimburse me for the shipping.
after 2 weeks with no cams, I called them asking where they were. I was told they were on the way. After another week of not seeing the cams, I called again and was told that the cams were not infact coming from their warehouse because BC was the one who had screwed up my order (B.S. because when I ordered my cams the first time they arrived within days. Transit time from CA to me takes over a week. If BC had dropshipped my cams then it would have taken much longer.)
They screwed up my order and on top of that, they lied to me. The cams were actually coming from Brian Crower in California. It took me
It took me over a month to receive the proper cams and I never recieved the $12 refund for my cost of shipping the improper cams back to them.

I know this seems like a minor problem, especially since it got resolved in the end, but I believe it showed very poor communication and customer service skills on their end, and if I owned a business and treated my customers this way, I'd deserve to go out of business.

I ordered steel U bends from them, and was sent 90 deg alum bends, and when i email to fit it i was told that they dont sell u bends. So i just wanted my money back. So when i talked to another person in charge of returns and explained everything i was told yes they do have u bends. They also screwed up my hose i ordered, but i just ate that one cause i was not specific enough.

long story short i was flat out sent the wrong thing on purpose, then told it was what i ordered, then they dont carry what i ordered, then they do have it and will exchange it.

DAMMIT! WTF is wrong with this forum?! Everytime I go to reply to a post, and submit my post, it times out, then I have to type **** all over again.

NUTSHELL: Feedback on other forums: Dodge Forums, DSMtalk, DSM tuners, etc. etc. etc. is all bad.

They aren't accredited with the BBB, though they're listed in the Inc. 500 as a stellar company. Apparently into the redistribution business and nothing else.

Don't buy from them.

Almost forgot: 16 complaints filed with the BBB.

turbo scam
If its not what you ordered {a garrett} and and you did not know the issues of it being a non original garrett, they should take it back with no questions and no cost to you!

I have been in business almost 15 years and could never think to mislead a customer, just to make a sale!
Then having the balls to tell a customer to pay a 20% restocking fee for me lieing to them! What an a--hole!

The 20% is a proffit for them, just to put it back on the shelf and hope some one else buys it for the retail price- or another black friday sale!

Is this is how they make money? Do they even care about customers?

If this is the case, this is not your fault and it should be refunded! If you thought you were getting a garrett and they send you a ___()()*()(), what the hell kind of business does this to a customer?
One that kills a business!

Maybe this is why it was called, a black friday sale! Sounds like you got black-balled! Should have been called a black ball sale!

Ask your self this one:
How many people did what you did? Is this why they have such a great price on the items?
Was this 20% restocking fee from other customers paying prior to your purchase, so you could get a great black friday deal?

I am new to this forum, thanks for they warning for me not to do business with this company! Sorry it happened to you..

File a claim with the BBB in your state and send the damm thing back for a full refund, if its not what they told you it was or you ordered!

Send them a link to this forum section. Show them what they are doing to their business with this kind of service!

good luck!

It says on our site that is a genuine garrett center section and it is. He got exctly what he ordered and about $100 under retail price. T3 garrett centersection with a 4 bolt outlet. We dont sell EBAY turbos and never will. We used to sell about 5-10 sets of cams a week but because some customer got exactly what he ordered all of a sudden its ok to slander a good company. People need to know the facts before you all just jump on the old bandwagon. He did not call within the 72 hour period. We offered to take it back minus the re-stocking fee for over a month and he did not want to do that. We charge the fee because we also get charged the fees from our supplier. You cant run a business just giving out free parts all the time. I am sorry some of you had problems in the past and most of it is because of the old sales staff. We are working to do better in 08. I dont want to spend all day on this thread so I will not post on her unless somebody else gets out of line again. Once again sorry if anyone has had problems.

so please explain to me...why did the turbo come in a kinetic motorsports box...that was always my biggest problem with your story. It came in a kinetic motorsports box, marked with a part number for a kinetic motorsports turbo. You informed me that kinetic uses only garrett turbos, but when i got that info from the horses mouth, a rep at kinetic. He informed me that for the turbo that matched the part number on the box that it does not use a garrett center section.

I personally have purchased a fair amount of dsm stuff ($2000 or so) from them. I have so far always had good luck. If I have any complaint at all its with them being out of stock on 1 or 2 items in a larger order and either I have to recieve 2 seperate orders or wait on the entire order. But I also know you can run out of stock. I think the restocking fee is bogus in this situation. You expected something and there is some question as to weather or not you got it. The ground of ID mark on the compressore is flat bogus.

SBR, take the turbo back and refund the guys money. I suggest this as its the easiest way to settle the situation with the least amount of stress on everyones part.

We only use garrett center sections. Sometimes they do not come with the Garrett markings because they are marketed as SBR custom turbos, but in the end they are all still Garrett center sections.
