I had my ass handed to me today.
So I volunteered to help out my local region with one of the Annual patch days today. We run on an old airfield and the surface has to be maintained. Considering I am not even officially a member these days and my "racecar" is not even running, most would probably wonder why I bothered. BUT, I had one hell of a fun day shoveling shit ( concrete chunks) and shooting the shit with the guys I used to race with. I am wondering, do any of the other solo 2 guys on this board have similar maintenance events for you venues? This experience really opened my eyes up to just how much this region I race in enjoys what they do and the hard work that goes into it. I also found out that it is possible to stick a lincoln navigator V8 into the back of an early 90's Ford Escort. You learn something new and valuable every day

We sweep on race days or night before. Wasting time doing it any other time. We also have sweeper equipment and blowers.

One of my SCCA regions (I'm a nomad) had a Solo site that was formerly a small town Route 66 outlet mall in Oklahoma that took a direct hit from a tornado. We had to groom the heck of the place. Nails and screws were everywhere, and bristly weeds would grow up two feet in the seams of the asphalt. Huge empty place, though.

Most other sites involve sweeping until you hurt. One was so bad that we rented a blower machine and pushed it around the "line."

RallyCross is another story. Making course often involves driving a brush hog.

Most of our sites are well maintained, but we follow the rule of "make it cleaner than when you got there".We have a core group of folks that will get together to inspect/clean a couple of days before the event. One of our sites is on a college campus, and the parking nazi makes us re-stripe the lines we blacken after every event In a nearby region,we have to restripe AND renumber about 12,000 parking spots at the end of the year. The bonus there is we don't pay to use the lot, which is college football stadium lot!

I'm not sure how much it costs to repaint... but I imagine that is a great deal for the region.
