Boys, boys, settle down now.

The OP tamed down his original thought-out-loud, and my post was a little infusion of levity.

I, personally, prefer races between drivers rather than races between cars.

And sheesh, if you want to make fun of econoboxes, why even be on a forum for Sentras?

Flukes and "golden moments" mean nothing in saying a car can "compete". They don't give much detail in the article about the NSX except for what all was done to it (alot).

If that indeed was the 04 video, it shows se-r faster in straight line power and cornering. I find that hard to believe with the power to weight difference between the NSX and SE-R (especially the class differences). Either bad driver, bad setup, or something wrong in NSX. Yes it is something to laugh about, but put it as a win notch? I don't think so.

If you want to cheer for the underdog, lets all go out in the parking lot and cheer at a ford focus.

Once again just because you are faster at an open track day than another car does NOT mean you or your car are actually faster (I have seen people brag about beating a r-compound elise that was sandbagging and then later in the day it set TOD when it had a clear run, the guy didn't want to crash in traffic is why he drove slow). They are fun, go do them, enjoy them. Go pass other cars. Setup little competitions with your friends, but when you pass an Evo, Z06 or whatever on r-compounds it means sh!t except that you were running faster at the time (go brag to your friends about it, but if you talk to anybody in the know they don’t care). And just because they have equal experience doesn’t mean they are equal drivers.

Reread boostlee’s responses he makes a lot of sense and has good points. Just get out there and get seat time and have fun.

When you build a road race car you build it to suit a class. Within it's respective class a properly sorted B car can do well. All hope is not lost to RWD unless you are prepping the car to run in a class where it WONT be competitive.

Again you said road race, that means WHEEL TO WHEEL racing. You will need all of the tricks and custom parts to make it competitive. I think what you meant to say was track day. The issue there is that you are not building a competitive track day car you are trying to build a fast track day car. Track day's are NOT competition. There is no 1st place or ANY place.

Spirited or even crazy street driving means nothing. In my days instructing autocross and track days I have seen street hero's come to the track to be completely humbled by MUCH slower cars. If you really want to have fun with your car then start getting some seat time as it sits.

What I am saying is, what would you need to do to make a sentra compete. Not what I need to do. This thread has somehow been aimed toward myself because I am the OP. It is a simple objective question, yet people start taking the thread into the direction that I am building a race car. I'm not. That's what I meant about the direction of the thread. How is that hard to understand? Yet people keep referring to what class my sentra would be put in because of the motor mods. We're not talking about my car. If I wanted to build a race car, I would have. So go back and re-read everything, and you can obviously see the direction the thread was going, and where I intended it to go. Doesn't take a genius to figure it out.

I will build my car for open track days and street driving because I don't care to be competitive. I just wanted to know if it was possible, and what kind of setups would do well in W2W racing.

So back on topic, we know that you have to build a car for a class. What class would the sentra platform be competitive in?

I will break this up into pieces to show that your actually confusing yourself:

Well, here is your answer...........

Not necessarily your car, but you said a "competitive race car"...........

Then the next few posts down it changes to..........

You see a pattern here?? Hence the confusion.

And then you contradict yourself (I am sure not purposely) in the same post

The two are not the same, hence again more confusion.

Now back on topic.

For open trackdays, the car will be somewhat fun, but I am pretty sure massively expensive. Reason:

Big power, minimal suspension, no experience and sub-par brakes = going off bigtime for a rookie driver as yourself.

As I said before (and I will say it again and again). DO NOT START OUT WITH OPEN TRACKDAYS!! Go to a few auto-xing , learn a few tricks, talk to the fast guys and get a feel for the car. Do not add anything to the car currently except dropping the boost radically (which, for your size turbo, wont be good for auto-x anywho so you will have an extremely steep learning curve).

Not trying to be a dick, just a recommendation. Trackdays are more intense and indepth than you may think. Brakes, flat spotting tires, going off into scenery, back to back 20-30 min sessions with class inbetween, boiling brake fluid, avoiding novices, dirty tracks, weather, the list goes on.

As far as W2W racing............There are a few guys over on the other forum with which you can speak to. But I have only seem the sentra in any form be competitive in ITA and Showroom stock, when eligible (SCCA) and PTE (I think NASA) (when it was eligible). The suspension on these things just require toooo much development and money to be competitive in anything but a "stock" class.

Good luck!!

Classes that Boostlee listed. Most of them are stock or near stock classes.

If you are asking about a turbo sentra... None really. You are putting yourself into some very open classes that have chassis that can run much bigger tires and have more developed suspensions.

Around here we have some autox classes that are done soley on motor size (with 1.5x multiplier for boost) and race tire/ street tire, you might be able to be competitive in classes like that if you can find them.

Winning answer right there. Just go have fun and enjoy.

advise on time attack/ road course set up on a hard top egg - SR20 Forum

Check that out if you want one of these barns to handle well.

And with regards to a class.............Not matter what you do (be it auto-x, open track days, or W2W racing) YOU ARE GOING TO BE CLASSED!! Simple. Hence my divulging classing info. If you go to Open track days, guess what, they class you as a "novice, intermediate or advanced. You go to auto x, they class you "SM, SM2, ST, ST2, etc." If you go open wheel you have "EP, SS, ITA, ITR, etc."

You get the gist??

And again, I cannot stress this enough, DO NOT TOUCH THE CAR!! Use that money towards seat time.

If you want more definition, please you are more than welcome to PM me. Building a fast street car has very little bearing on building a proper car for trackdays, autox, etc.

P.S. as far as trackdays are concerned, you do not necessarily build a car as compared to sorting a car to be reliable and well setup (read: easy to drive)
