Exactly. A high-hp car masks how bad of a driver you really are.

That's why I went DE-T to VE back down to DE, then rallycross.

Racing in the dirt really highlights and exaggerates the physics of racing.

I think this video represents the type of exhilarational moment you are seeking:

Oh wow he passed a car not at race speed while at speed... OMG amazing.

Results from that race for reference: Results

The sentra se-r ran a 2:02 lap time... Not going to take the time to figure out which NSX it is, but the slowest NSX had a lap time of 1:52.... 10 seconds faster per a lap... Not even close.

Thanks for further proving my point. Even the honda civics in his class smoked him. With times around 1:56. Not trying to knock Jeff cause that was some good driving in the video, but he wasn't driving a TOD car.

Wow, no need to get snarky.

Just trying to capture a little of that underdog spirit. Thanks Debbie Downer.

What was demosntrated was a golden moment, no matter what happened on the rest of the track.

It was my mistake, I thought the video was from this event back in '04:
Sport Compact Car/Super Street Time Attack Challenge - NSX Vs. Sentra - Sport Compact Car Magazine

Flaherty figured he'd stick with the NSX as long as possible before it walked away, leaving plenty of open track to turn a fast lap. By the end of the first lap, however, the NSX had yet to shake the Sentra. The last turn was taken head to tail, the Sentra just trailing as they blew onto the straight. This made for a very public drag race, with the Sentra leading and on the inside line by Turn One. After laying down the pass, Flaherty implored the NSX pilot to "look at the science in this bucket!" At the end of the day, each car's best lap times proved the showdown wasn't a fluke, the SE-R turning a 1:59.3 to the NSX's 2:01.2.

Thoughts?

Interesting results in 04, but not unheard of. Based on video date I think it is the 08 results.

Flukes and "golden moments" mean nothing in saying a car can "compete". They don't give much detail in the article about the NSX except for what all was done to it (alot).

If that indeed was the 04 video, it shows se-r faster in straight line power and cornering. I find that hard to believe with the power to weight difference between the NSX and SE-R (especially the class differences). Either bad driver, bad setup, or something wrong in NSX. Yes it is something to laugh about, but put it as a win notch? I don't think so.

If you want to cheer for the underdog, lets all go out in the parking lot and cheer at a ford focus.

:EDIT: (this post is towards llprad posts) :EDIT:

Please do not bring either of those cars into this debate

Have you seen how heavily modified each of those vehicles are?? They are both prepared as close to the class rules as possible (I know and have read up on each and have actually seen the Science of Speed NSX run) and have no bearing on this discussion.

Not trying to be offensive, so please do not take my posting to heart........I understand your point however.

But I do not think Coheed is looking to spend anywhere near the amount of money or development time that is wrapped up in that sentra.

I mean, the thing has lexan front windows!!!

P.S. Those 04 results are a little skewed as the SOS NSX was not as fully prepared as it is today (not even close)

I agree with you. Those aren't cheap cars.

My whole point is you can't go into this thinking you are going to "compete" with everything. Which is what this thread was started on and people keep posting videos, etc about.

If it is a multi purpose car (like most everybody here) you can't think about being competitive cause you have to compromise somewhere (budget, a/c, glass, etc).
