CV issues -- cv fault or transmission fault?
Hey all,

We just got back from Oregon Raceway Park where we had an absolute blast whipping the crap out of our poor NX . However, it developed an issue. The driver's side CV keeps popping out of the transmission. We came up with a better clip thing on the end of the CV and jabbed that in there, but it still came out, under race conditions, on a track.

So, do you think we just have a whack CV on that side, or do you think there's something busted-ass in our transmission that's causing it not to hold on?

On that note, we need the car in track condition by Halloween, so if it involves rebuilding the stock b13 transmission that's in there.. I'd rather just pick up a spare and use it, and get to the one I've got over the winter. I don't even care if it's suffering 5th gear popout, as we're not using 5th on track.. unless we're at Spokane :P.

Word. I'll get one of my guys over to the pick n' pull to see if it's worth yarding out or not. Transmissions are one of those things that are kind of hard to tell, until you've got it installed with a new clutch and new cv.

Yeah, it's a Chinese cheap-o. It's a piece of crap, but it did fit.. not like I measured the old one though to make sure what I got was an exact true match. The original was totally failed.

I'm just on the fence on whether I get a nicer CV and jab it into that trans, and possibly suffer bunging up the end of it cause the splines in the transmission are borked.. or just drop that trans, disassemble it, and get to it later.. and slap in a junkyard or "other" replacement for the time being.

On that note, anyone got a better-than-oem clutch for the b13 they don't mind parting with, that will hold up to ham fisted, lead footed race-monkeys? For reference, the Duralast crapmaster from Autozone was neither Durable nor did it Last.

I just hope if I rebuild an OEM, or pick up something else and stab it in there, that the transmission isn't all screwed up and I'll pwn the new (rebuilt) CV...

I would make sure the clip is still on the axle if not I would swap a new one on it ...I hope it is not in your transmission ...

It's still on there. It just sucks ass. I just hope our racing on it, while it's 1/2 engaged, didn't obliterate the splines in the transmission. It'll take me a bit before I find that out.

On the other hand, I think the "team" has conceded to the idea of buying another transmission anyway, so that we can use it, and have a spare to bolt up to the spare engine, to make it a more complete in-and-out swap if we needed to do it in short order.

It's an endurance race car. 7 hours is the shortest race we'd run. The 24 hour format is our favorite, hands-down.
