Is my 20VE running right?
this is my first b14 ve swap, the first time the ve is at the track, and the first ve running on wheels, at least in guam. the swap was actually finished that same afternoon. my fastest time that night was a 15.14 @ 92.94. people here say its a good time, but looking at the times that other people are hitting on the forum make me doubt that it actually is a good time. we don't have a dyno here, so fine tuning is more difficult. i'm posting this thread to see if anyone can help me bring my times lower and give my advice.


let me start first by listing my supporting mods:

stock sr20ve
g20 ecu 7500rpm
greddy mss both switched at 4500
de 259cc injectors
de maf (regrounded)
b14 de distributor
ssac 2.5" into 3" open resonated test pipe
hs cold air intake
20* advanced timing
ur 2-piece pulley set
bkr6e spark plugs
stock de clutch
stock de flywheel (lightened to 16lbs)
b13 lsd transmission
falken azenis 205/50/r15 (20 psi)
15x7 rota gt3
taylor thundervolts 10mm wires
battery relocated to rear
stock interior

assuming that a stock 200sx ser weighs 2500lbs, i have a ****load of suspension, sunroof, plus my weight, so i would say my car weighs 2800-2900lbs


now my time slip:

i'm launching at around 4800-4900rpm

rt: .9430
60: 2.4238
330: 6.5309
594: 92.2489
1/8: 9.86 @ 73.64mph
1/4: 15.1401 @ 92.94

i beat a 350z in this run (hehehe ...personal victory)

so what do you guys think?

i ran that almost exact same time with that setup, your 60 foot is whats killing you.

Im sure those injectors are leaning you out when the big lobes kick in.

Here is the deal

Stock DE 259cc injs are good for 175 WHP. I dont think you are making more than that with that list.

A stock B13 clutch setup will slip on a VE.

The B14 Distributor is not the right thing to run on this car.

SR20VE motors do not like Cold Air Intakes so get rid of it and get a Warm Air Intake. VEs like Short intake tubes between the MAF and TB. Lets say 8-12 inches.



If you want your car to to run 96-98 MPH times you will have to make a few changes.

1. Get a better clutch (2000-2001 B15 SE Disc with ACT Presure plate) $250

2. Get a B15 SE 00-01 or G20 00-02 Distributor $100

3. Buy a Maxima 95-99 MAF with Pigtail harness $75-$125

4. Since you have a spare 200sx SER Computer, send it to Calum and have it programmed for ( Sr20VE, 333cc VE injs, Maxima 95-99 MAF and have the rev limiter set at 8000 RPMs ) $105

5. Toss the CAI


The modifications above will have your car running 14.1-14.3 at 96-98 MPH.

Dre, I beg to differ. "A stock B13 clutch setup will slip on a VE." How so? If it had maybe 180k on it or its shot. I had a stock B13 clutch on my stock turbo setup and it didn't slip once, and it made more than 200whp. So I don't understand how a 170whp VE will make a stock clutch slip..

People have to understand here and on the other forum that a completly stock VE will not be "much" faster than a bolt on DE. People have gotten in the mind set of " YEAH I'm getting a VE, they are super fast" But they can be will some work, Not stock. Do some of things DRE told you to do, and it will pick up some, but don't be dissapointed when it doesn't run much faster than a fully bolted DE.

Your 60' seems to be just as bad as mine but:

1. I would say get a better clutch.

2. Get the stock 20ve injectors 333cc or get some 370cc. I dont think 259cc is safe for your motor.

3. Get a progarmmed ecu to raise your ev limit to 8k

Have a few questions:

What happened to the stock injectors?
Why cant you use the stock ecu? dont work in the US?
What happens to the stock distributor? Wont work either?
Why did you have to use some many 20de parts?

That is a pretty good time as your motor seem more of a de than ve.

Well, I can tell you that a stock SER clutch will slip on a VE. I have done many a VE and can tell you this from experience.

They slip under high RPM shifts 7500 and up wihle racing.

A fully bolt on DE on street tires will at best net you 175 WHP. 14.2 1/4 Mile @ 96-98 MPH

A fully Bolt on VE on street tires will net you 200-215 WHP. 13.5 1/4 Mile @ 103-105MPH

An average of 5-7 mile an hour is a huge diffrence in the 1/4 mile.

I will put it to you like this my car has run a best of 13.4 @ 104.5 MPH on street tires. That will run 12.7-12.9 with slicks.

I went out racing with SERICAN one night and we raced a Civic with a B20 Vtec, he was running slicks at the track and 13.2 @102 MPH. We raced him from a role and beat him so bad it was not funny.

Lastly a DE motor should not be mentioned in the same sentence as a VE. I have been working on these cars since 1992 and I can tell you from building cars for friends that a DE does no compare.

Also compare a motor for what it is.

A completly stock DE is not in any comparison to a completly stock VE.

If you are going to mod a DE them make the same mods to the VE.


If you have a VE with Intake, header, exhaust and ECU you will run 14.1 @ 98 MPH.

If you have a DE with intake, header exhaust and ECU you will run 14.8 @ 94 MPH.

Times are on street tires. Without gutting the car. Straigh up.

I agree with you Dre. I was dynoed 175hp and think I lost some hp and went to about 160 with 130 tq and was slipping a stage 1 cutch (about the same as stock).

Had to get An ACT kit recently

Even a modded de will slip clutch. Maybe a stock clutch and a performance pressure plate is what that guy is running - that will work.

Dre, please explain why you guys cant use the 20ve ecu and wireloom?

Its not that you can't use the stock VE harness and ECU. It is not worth the time an effort.

Stock VE rev limiter 7100 RPms I think. Speed liniter of 112 I think. Nobody is or can program this ECU on this side of the world. So your back is up against the wall for any HP modifications. It takes a **** load of time to wire the VE harness int your car.
