Thread: N1 pistons on SR20VE COMPRESSION? Headgasket compressed thickness?

so N1 pistons on SR20VE the CR would be 12.6 right?

what about N1 pistons shaved 0.5 mm dome?
what about N1 pistons shaved 1mm dome?


20V or VET Metal headgasket is 1.2mm but compressed?
VE OEM paper type headgasket is 1.2 mm but compressed?

N1 pistons in SR20VE will get 13:1 CR, thats a lot for pump gas, but can be done. The thing here is, what are you trying to acomplish? If you do this with N1 cams you are going to need very good supporting mods to get nice horsepower, like a well designed header and a good intake manifold.

If you put a 2mm headgasket i think you would be able to manage a 12.5:1 but im not sure. I think that you still will need to get your ECU tunned or use high octane race fuel.

Answering to your questions, from what i have readed in here, if you shave the top of a set of pistons 1mm you will get 1 point less of compression but i dont know if this is true. Also shaving pistons without putting sway coating over them its not a good idea...

Also, just FYI, N1 or SR16VE pistons are not just drop in pistons on the SR20VE, they have to be machined to fit and dont do a mess inside your engine.

N1 pistons are not 13:1.

I personally ran SR16 pistons in mine. I only modified the skirt for the oil squirter. You can do it with a dremel if need be. Didn't do any shaving to the top. Drove it for thousands of miles reliably on pump gas. The car was an animal for a basic 2.0. They say CR is rougly 13.2:1. I also had my head milled and was running a VET headgasket.

I know that is common information, im only telling you what i know from reading A LOT... I know that there are lots of engines with that mod over here and according to them, its one of the best things you can do to a VE...

We are building a engine with that setup here in Costa Rica and we are aiming to get less than 13:1 CR with a thicker headgasked, SR16 pistons and N1 cams, that should be one hell of a engine... The only way to know how it is going to result is by trying it... numbers are diferent from place to place..
