Adjustable cam gears & ignition timing
Hey guys, just a quick question about setting the base timing with adjusted cam gears. Since the distributor is driven off the exhaust cam, would i have to set the cam back to 0*, set base timing and then readjust the cam? Or would you actually be able to do some math and multiply your cam timing adjustment by 2(to get crank degrees) and then add/subtract it from the base timing when you go to set it?

No setting back to 0 degrees needed. No math needed.
Get the thing in timing mode (locked timing), hook up the timing light, rotate distributor until timing light shows correct timing (while engine idles of course). Done.
No timing light? Do it by ear.

ok perfect, thats exactly what i needed to know. The shop foreman at my job has a really nice match timing light, and you actually set the degree on the timing light you want the ignition timing to be at, and then you just line it up at the 0 degree mark on the pulley. It makes getting exact settings easier.
