GTI-R/DET pistons safe for ~500hp tuned @ 8k on nothing larger than 16v cams.

CP pistons safe for 500+hp @ 9k+ depending on your valve-train.

It comes down to how high you plan on revving and how much tuning cushion you want with a cast vs. forged piston.

I just ordered a set of VE-T 87mm 9:1 CP's

For the price you can not go wrong but, like Jamie said it all depends on what you want out of the set up.

Jamie nothing more 350 is good for me also nothing more than 8k, so I guess I'll stick with the gtir pistons. Any recommendation on what type of rods?

If nothing more than 350 is what you want, you don't need anything more than stock ve pistons. For that hp goal, I would just run a stock ve and boost it with a good tune. jmho

Gtir or bluebird are ok. Need to do snotch to run safe and valve dont hit the piston.. Rigth now i have 8.5:1 wiseco piston and 20ve cams and none snotch reving to 8k no problem and over 400hp

If your using stock ve cams the gtir pistons will be fine. If your using any other cam you need to notch the pistons or just better off going cp pistons. CP's are good to 700whp with standard pins and well over that with upgraded wrist pins.

With what your shooting for as long as your using the standard cams the gtir's will be good.

Anything else or any future plans of uprading you might as well get the VE specific CP pistons that have the valve reliefs and like Jaime said, it gives your more tuning cusion if something goes wrong.

My cp's have taken a lot of abuse over the 3 years they have been in my motor. Melted holes in the exhaust valves and blew almost every ground strap off my plugs when my motor went lean from my fuel pressure dumping and the pistons didnt have a mark on them. Put a new head on and it was like new.

Then same thing happened again because i didnt realize at the time it was a problem with the regulator, blew two ground straps off the plugs and damaged the top rings of the pistons but the pistons themselves were still perfect. lol. The CP's are very very strong. They dont have a single detonation mark on them even though there was obviously detonation.

Invest a couple hundred more and go with the VE turbo pistons. Its extra insurance and your bottom end is good whenever you want to upgrade and make more power. Plus, you can rev that thing out.

cp vet pistons ftw. extra valve clearance and lighter than a stock det piston.

i'm obviously a complete dumbass about building motors, but I would imagine that a stronger piston would be more important than light weight, when making as much power as a VE-T would.... si? no?
