VVL strangeness, odd cam wear and early activation?
Should there be this much slop in the valve train?

Notice the cam lock and the whole arm assembly moves together. Is that too much slop at the pivot?

At about 4k the motor sounds louder, intermittently, until about 4,500k. Then the same sound comes in at about 6-6,500k. I can feel the intake cam kick in at 4,500k. I set it early so I could tell when it kicked in by the power drop due to early kick in. I don't feel a surge until the sound changes at 6-6,500k. Exhaust kick in?

I'd figure that the exhaust VVL isn't kicking in until 6-6,500k if it wasn't for the fact that the same sound occurs around 4k, even with no power to the VVL solenoids. How could the VVL kick in with no power to the solenoids.

Both solenoids are new. They both activate, discriminately, when I set the trigger to a low RPM.
