consensus on dropping 16ve pistons into a unmachined block...
thats where im currently at in my mind.

speaking to a few people, and looking at how much i wanna spend this time around and being able to take advantage of what i do have.

so my question to the people who have been there done that (cory, bes, jaime, dre, any others) feel free to chime in.

i always thought it wrong to just slap a piston in. i always figured it required an overbore to ensure the pistons walls are truely straight. but you guys and alot of honda guys have gone agianst the grain with great success. my only concern would be that the rings seal well.

do you guys hone the block ? or just clean it up, spec the rings and drop em right in ? do you deck the block ? or should i be ok with say a hot tank and a light scuffing with a stone ? i will be using a 90mm mazworx gasket because thats all i can use on my head. http://www.sr20-forum.com/vvl/52386-head-resurfacing-deck-heights-gasket-sizing.html my last post will explain why after further inspection im forced to use a 90mm hg. so obviously it needs to seal 100%, i dont want any issues what so ever. any certain technique needed to ensure 100% sealing with the maz head gasket ?

if you all feel i can get away with it this is my next step. its the cheapest route obviously. the current motor in my car runs good, oil pressure, water temp everything is in good working shape. i just at this point cant bear to spend another couple of grand on this car. it should only cost me a few hundred bucks in parts pistons and h/g and maybe some bucks at the machinest to boil the block and head (if needed). and 200 bucks for new bearings.

im not looking to break any records, just looking for something thats better then what i have now, and can take full advantage of the parts i have mainly the cams and ported head.

cory ran a 12.8 @ 106 with pistons, stock head and n1s and an intake mani. iirc he made 218 whp.

i figure

my:

custom intake mani with velocity stacks and 90mm tb
fully ported/polished head supertech s&r
kelford v3
16ve piston
4:1 stepped header
aem standalone

jaime doing the all the hard work .

should be good for at least 220whp if not a few more with peak power being made very high in the rpm.

thoughts ? just a cheap, reliable, some what proven recipe for power, enough to get me to the convention, put a smile on my face and bring me back home all in one piece.

Go for it bro without any worries thats what I will be doing in the next couple of weeks Except my setup will be different than yours but my goal its pretty much the same I will be happy with 225-230 and I know it can be done with everything sealing correctly on a stock unported head with SR16 pistons and N1 cams and custom IM and the tri-y header...

What did u make ?

I feel 220Whp should be very easyily attainable. Im sure shell be good for a bit more.

I made 218whp with some custom ssac, Q45 t/b facing the brake booster no intake pipe and im on n1s, with what you have listed you should break 230whp easy.
also the 16ve pistons will give you a little more compression im running cp 12.5.1.
