Do P12 20v coil plugs have built in ignition modules?
I'm planning to use the 20v CAS and plugs that originally came with my motor, and trying to figure out if it has the ignitor on the plugs or if i have to use an external one. anyone with experience care to help out...

they are 3 wire just like vet and s15 coils. no external igniter needed.

22448-91F00- COIL ASSY-IGNITION P12,S15,T30 exact part code match for S15, i.e they are S15 coils and vice versa.

What would you have to do when mounting these and a CAS on a regular VE? Removal of dizzy? And then what else? Where does the CAS mount?

For one thing, if you're not going aftermarket ECU, your ECU needs to support coil on plug setup rather than a distributor and single coil setup, so that means basically using a RWD Silvia ECU. I'm not sure if the CAS output matches that of a RWD car either so that might not even work in the end.

Its a setup that will require some legwork/research to be done.

The CAS replaces the dizzy (the stock dizzy has the CAS in the base).

thanks for the help guys. i'm running a haltech platinum 1000 ems now. unfortunately scott from haltech is not familiar with the p12 plugs so didn't know whether the ignitor was built in or not.

I'm actually trying to find out the same exact thing. I just assumed that since they were 3-wire COP that they had a built in ignitor (power transistor) but I'm told that might not be the case, as I think S13 COP has 3-wires but also has external ignitors (or so I'm told).

I'd love to see the ignition wiring diagram of an S15, or 20V or VET.

S15 coils have the built in ignitor and are 4 wire. The 3 wire coils just have a secondary ground that connects to the back of the head. Dont really know its purpose other than to maybe protect from surging or eliminate a pulsing effect from the coil. They still need to be used with an ignitor or some other means of firing them such as the ecu itself if your using an EMS.

The S15 coils are known to go out because of the built in ignitor. The extra heat from being on the motor itself under the cover gets them pretty hot. Alot of people say not to go on long road trips with an s15 sr powered 240 because the coils will overheat and take a dump. Usually on 4+ hr trips from what ive read.
