Default clattering metal noise sound clip inside

Geez. The sound is just got louder and louder for the past few days. First I thought I had a rattling CAT. Then I pop the hood open and the sound was pretty focused in front of the motor. The car is still strong and idles just like normal.

Here is my conclusion: I was thinking that my alternator is either bad or loose. I was idling yesterday and noticed that the battery, brake, and abs light came on. And I've seen that probably 10 years ago when it was time to change the oem one out. Can you please see if this clip helps?

Any assistance is greatly appreciated....

My old car did that same noise. It's something in the bottom of the engine on the timing chain side. I think it was an oil pump starting to go or a bad bearing. I swapped the engine and it went away. lol

Check your oil and see if anything is in it.

best thing to do is save the money, pick the tensioner up from your local parts store and swap it in, is right on the back of the head next to where a DEs oil filter would be...once you have the new part youll know what to look for , takes 5 mins to do

edit: ive put 1000s of miles on my car rattling..infact it still is..and i dog the isht outta it

just my .02 but it doesnt sound like the tensioner to me.. or the alternator.. but the guy with the idea to take the belt off is right, its a free way to test if its the alt.. theres no sense in shot gunning money at problems..

Sound like the altenator might be cracked or loose. One of my customers had that same problem. It drove me nuts trying to find where it was coming from.

I have that going on right now. Been that way for a while now. Altenator bolt is broken. When I first heard that sound I started freaking out. Then I remembered the previous owner had just changed the alt a few hours prior to me buying the car. He fubared the bolt when he put the new alt in, or taking the old one out.

Ok, I feel a little better now. I was hoping the alternator was going out instead of the motor. The battery light, abs, and brake light came on and the last time I seen that was when the alternator was bad. The wierd thing is that the alternator is still showing 14+ volts when idling.

where are the main bolts any way?
