01 Sentra tuning options
Alright guys I'm looking into turboing my 01 Sentra SE w/pp I'm trying to come up with a way to do engine management and pass all applicable emissions for a OBD2 plug state. Basically no CEL's allowed and the system has to have all sensors in the ready state has to be able to be read from OBD2 port etc etc. I looked into the B14 ECU but I know you have to replace your intake manifold for the B14 one and it seems most people drop the rear o2 and the egr equaling a fail here (since the ECU has it programed out and they do not appear as "ready") I figured to get a full pass you'd have to have all applicable emissions equipment from a B14 and it just sounds like a pain. I know you cant use the AEM EMS-4 because it takes away a bunch of the emissions stuff that the ECU normally controls and it wont pass on the plug test. I have been doing some researching into the AEM F/IC piggyback and it seems that you can use it and get all systems a go and get a pass on emissions. Does anyone have a success story with this setup?

What are you trying to do with the car? If going turbo then you need a full ECU. If you just want to slightly tune it, you can either get a piggyback or mess with distro for timing and FPR for fueling.

Now I always suggest a full ECU, but you do need to do some major wiring (repinning the plug) for OBD2 16 bit plug. If you go to 96-97 ECU, you will still pass emissions and inspection as long as you do it correctly. All OBD2 ECU's required Rear O2 sensor and EGR, so that's where your CEL's will come from.

Also going to Lowport manifold is not hard, and is actually preferred on a roller rocker. I gained 10whp just from dropping it in, and another 10whp from tuning it. Stock RR manifold sucks for flow (both intake and exhaust).

SAFCII and adjust for fuel. It will work just fine. Keep the EGR plugged in and extend the rear o2, if you get a larger exhaust. That should keep you codeless and have fun.

Planning on turbo heres the setup details I was planning on... T28 turbo pushing 8psi, bluebird manifold with EGR, walbro 190 pump, 370cc injectors, generic FMIC and piping, Greddy RS blow off running recirc, Stock MAF, AEM truboost controller with Tial 38mm external waste gate (would be using a divorced and sealed T28 5 bolt discharge flange running an open wastegate port plumbed out to an external wastegate), AEM UEGO wideband, 2.5" downpipe, HFC, HKS Sport exhaust, boomslang 01 Sentra SE patch harness and AEM F/IC. Hoping for around 190-200whp in a fun reliable fully emissions compliant setup. I've read about the B14 ECU and intake swaps and I have yet to find someone with a fully OBD2 plug compliant setup. Everyone I've read about doing it on the SR forums always just programs out the rear o2 and the EGR which in my state both have to be in the "readiness" state when the OBD2 plug is plugged in. I'm an electrical engineer so the whole wiring thing doesnt scare me but I'm not looking to reinvent the wheel here I'm just looking for a fully plug and play options which boomslang has made it they make the patch harness for an 01 sentra se to the AEM F/IC unit which can control both timing and fuel. Also I've already built a B14 turbo (see in my signature) so none of this stuff is new to me and I realize that most of this setup is over built. So anyways basically I guess im asking has anyone here used the boomslang and AEM F/IC unit before on an 01?

What your wanting to do is not hard at all, just not as easy as on B14's or B13's. How good of an ECU is AEM F/IC? I can't say OBD2 Calum will be any better honestly, this is why I went straight to OBD1 and a NEMU. Check out my B15 build thread, I try to document everything I do, so might come in useful to you.

I had the calum basic board on my B14 got the job done hit 240whp and 270ft lbs at 10psi on the dyno with a T25 z32 maf and 370cc injectors. Only issue I ever had with that car was a boost spike issue that I was going to have corrected until one day it decided to hit 18psi on the way to work and toasted cylinder 1 (just so happens that was also the day that the external wastegate I ordered to fix it had showed up at the house).

B15guy I'd check this out.

Boomslang Fabrication | AEM F/IC Wire Harnesses

This tied with a AEM F/IC will give you more tuning ability over the Apexi SAFC and you wont have to rip apart your harness.

That's actually pretty cool, finally a drop in solution!

yup I'm super pumped! I've had my 01 SE as a daily forever and always wanted to turbo it but the lack of support for the 32 bit ecu always kept me at bay now that I found this game over shes going turbo. I actually talked to Rustin the owner of boomslang about it he says as long as you keep all the sensors it is a guaranteed pass for emissions also for the OBD2 plug states.
