Have dyno tune today 358whp 348wtq at 18psi
I finally have my car dyno tune today using nismotronic nemu ecu. My car is 92 240sx with redtop s13 sr20det, garrett gt2871r, 850cc denso injectors and n62 maf. I was hoping for 400whp. Instead I only got 358whp and 348 wtq at 18 psi. I want to increase boost to 25 psi hoping to get 400whp but my tuner said no because I am on pump gas. He said I need to get race gas 110 octane or e85 to increase boost. Is 20 psi max limit on pump gas for any turbo? I know evo and srt4 stock boost is 24 psi. How did evo and srt4 can have 24psi on pump gas? Is there any other turbo I can use on sr20det to achieve 400whp on pump gas.

which version of the 2871r are you using. What manifold is on the car and whats the rest of the setup. the 2871r will only be safe to 18-20psi on pump gas.

He suggested race gas because you were getting out of efficiency and he probably already had to pull some extra timing to get where you're at. It gets to the point where it's just not worth it to push any harder with the set up. You can squeak out a little more with higher octane or water/meth.

listen to your tuner he doesnt say stuff for the hell of it.

Yep, people seem to just love to try and push a T2 turbo and ill tell you from experience it doesnt end well.

And no not every turbo has a 20psi pump gas limit. I wouldnt run 20psi on a t25 for one it wont make that much except for a quick spike and two its way beyond its efficiency. I was running up to 24psi on pump gas with my garrett t3 60 trim w/ .82 turbine housing without any issues. Because it was still well within its efficiency range that it didnt cause high backpressure and high intake temps.

You got two choices with the 2871, either run a water/meth setup to cool the intake charge and pistons to prevent detonation and/or melting of the piston or run at least 100 octane fuel. 100 octane should allow you to run 20-22psi and hit your 400whp goal. Again depending on what turbine housing is on your turbo. if you have the smaller housing, good luck hitting 400whp, if you have the larger one, 400 can be done.

If you want to reliably make 400whp on pump gas, time for a t3 turbo, no question about it. I was making 430whp on 20psi pump gas, daily driven for over a year, 14k miles, no problems. so think about it.

SRT4 stock boost is NOWHERE near 24psi. Please get your facts straight. Stock boost on an SRT4 is 11psi. They are able to run greater boost because they not only are 2.4L motors, they also run a lower CR (8.1:1) than the 2L SR20DET (8.5:1).

Cams would also help...

^^ Although yes, you are moving away from the efficiency island of the turbo.

I thought only babies messed with toys (T2 sized turbos)??
