All of the ECU diagrams I have, except for the GTiR, show an EGR temp. sensor.

Got a lot of good info out of this thread. Even though I am switching to an AEM EMS. I think its great that you guys are getting closer and closer to stand alone status with a stock ecu

The great thing about keeping the stock ECU is you will be able to retain the "stock" feel to the car, sometimes when you switch to a standalone you lose some of that.

This is headed in the direction of some of the good Honda firmware's out there, people have used the stock ECU for power in the 1000 hp range and counting. I believe this firmware and a speed density conversion will definitely extend the usable range of the stock ECU and replace the need for going to a standalone unless you are an all out race car!

Exactly, this is the main reason why I simply went with OBDI ecu and TunerCode.

Sure MAF's do suck, but it's also nice not having to completely retune every time you install a new mod. Thus I am fine with using MAF's too, as long as I can get a reliable one cheap, I'm getting tired of paying $50-100 for a badly shaped N60/E60/Z32 MAFs that's all.

Might switch to a Ford Lightning one

Within a reasonable RPM range (up to say 12000rpm), I don't see what engine power output, or application (street car vs. race car) has to do with stock vs. standalone ECU. Higher RPM requires more ECU processing power, but other than that, they're virtually the same thing.

(There is probably a stock vs. standalone thread around here somewhere.)

It really doesn't have anything to do with power output except for the fact that you can run a more dedicated COP setup with most standalone systems. I have complete faith that the stock ECU could handle just as much power consistently as any of the standalone systems out there.

The reason why a dedicated racecar might want to go standalone is simply more inputs/outputs/failsafes that can be built into the system. I know similar things can be done with a stock ECU, but such things are limited not only by the hardware but also space in the ROM.

You can run COP on SR20DE or KA24DE with an SR20DET ECU.
