Default Bilstein Strut Inserts

Lot of good info about making your own CSKs on this forum, but what about CSBs?

Has anyone out there constructed shortened struts for a B13 using Bilstein inserts and Tokico blue strut housings (Tokicos for a B13, of course...)?
Barring the Bilsteins, is there a Koni that fits the Tokico shell?
Part#s, etc??

Cleaning out the garage and trying to figure out what to do with these old blues...

Thanks
Rob

I have herd of some, but you need to use a 2" housing.

what is the diameter of the OEM housing? also, how long are the inserts? they may not be short..............if they are too long you may even loose travel.

stock is like 1 7/8".

you would also have to make a hybrid strut like maxima bottom and old camry top strut housing or something with a gland nut.

these is the spec of the Bilstein i was looking at:
OD 45.8mm (1.8″)
Extended Length 480mm (18.89″)
Collapsed Length 380mm (14.96″)
Body Length 266mm (10.47″)

IIRC, it can handle 300lbs to 450lbs.

That should work in a Maxima housing depending on how it gets fastened into the strut housing. If it's a gland nut then the maxima housing is a little thin to cut threads into.

What you need is a threaded top nut housing. That guy welds two tubes together. It better be right doing it like that. I would be more inclined to make mine from scratch then do it like that.

There is another much safer way that kills two birds with one stone. You can use the lower half of the Maxima housing, cut the majority of the tube away around the knuckle area and then weld a new threaded tube onto that area. You then have a nice thick area for welding rather then some thin tube to tube interface. This will also space the tube out another 1/4 inch for some extra tire clearance.

Tell me what you are looking for, since I WORK FOR BILSTEIN I can talk to some friends and get it figured out. Joel Ward of the old RTR (random thoughts racing) works for Bilstein also. He used to race a B13 and told me he did a throw together at one point. I can do some digging with info. I can tell you, Bilstein inserts are the ****, much better than koni! They will valve to whatever spec you want. ALso, they said that if we had enough people, we could do a GB on their threaded housing with 36mm strut rod and they have a company that would do custom mount brackets and top mounts.

It's more a matter of if you can get people to pay for them. Even the Koni 8611 Race is way beyond what most people are willing to spend for a strut. Throw in true race fabrication for housings, tophats, etc and you are into a $2k + price ussually.

....and still trying to figure out what to do with these old Tokicos....

I know some applications (911s/Audis/Bimmers) you are able to mount the replacement monotube insert in an inverted fashion...better way to go about it I would guess, if one had the option.
Thoughts or ideas about doing this for the B13 (Tokico cores or not??)?
No limit Coleman Racing account, anyone??

Coach...part numbers, part numbers! Will a Toyota/Mits/Audi, etc. Bilstein insert fit in a Tokico housing, or maxima housing, or B13 housing....what works with what??

You can put the B15 yellow, the B13 and the b14 reds in them. Maxima inserts will not fit of course.
