GA: Best Places to Live?
Hey yall... I've been pondering moving to a new place with a new environment. Just speculation at the time and exploring my options.

I'm going to be visiting GA to see some family in the next few months and might go check out some places. I've pondered places like Savannah, ATL, Valdosta, Marietta, etc. Do any of you guys live in these places? Can you give me some insight on things like crime, housing prices, entertainment, weather? Are there some other nice places around GA that I haven't listed?

Let me know,
Meeners

I have lived in Stockbridge in Henry County for close to 10 years, prior to that I lived north of Atlanta (Marietta and Woodstock) for about 5 years. Henry County is south of Atlanta, but still very much a part of the Metro Atlanta area (approx 30 mins to downtown off peak traffic). Outstanding school systems and much better (less) traffic than the North Atlanta suburbs brought us here as we had 3 school aged kids. Henry also has very low crime rates compared to the rest of Metro Atlanta, likely because we are still probably still more rural overall. I live in a subdivision of 1-3 acre lots with most of the houses in the $175-250 range. Overall housing in the county runs from the low 100's up to 500's. If you are looking for more than that you need to look into Atlanta itself or the far Northern Atlanta suburbs where the rock stars and ball players live.

I recently bought a car from a gentleman (a pilot for Delta Airlines) in Tyrone, GA (just southwest of ATL) and it seemed like a pretty nice place. Granted this was based on two trips down there, but he himself (and might be a little biased) thought it was one of the best areas around Atlanta to live. Might be another place to look into.

I will say that the little bit of Atlanta traffic that I experienced on both trips down was TERRIBLE. And neither time was I in the worst part of it at the worst time. I was happy to creep along in my Nashville traffic after that!

Come to GA Tokes. I live in Northwest, GA, but the area that Joe speaks of is really nice. I didn't know that about the school systems, so that is a major plus. I like land and a place to ride ATV's, mountain bike trail, and hike. I'm very active out doors and the scenery down here is great when it comes to that. Plenty of this to do in the southeast and Chattanooga is only an hour away, home of the ONLY 100% fiber optic network in the United States. Best smart grid system in the world.

I will have to tell the girl about this I like the south... I'm from the east coast and love it too... but I'm tired of unpredictable winters. And I want to ride my bike, dirtbike, and kart all year!

I live in Marietta, love it. Traffic up and down 75 pretty much is always moving inside of the 285 loop. North of 285 on 75 can suck a bit if you live up 575.

Stay away from anything up 85N of Atlanta. Traffic SUCKS on that entire highway. Also stay away from the Dunwoody area on the north side of hwy 285. Traffic blows in that area as well.

We have a couple sweet dirt bike parks, I like highland park, and there is one in Jasper that I havn't checked out. Then there are a few state parks you can ride at. If you have a dual sport, tons of fire roads in the north GA mountains to play around on.

Oooh ooh... are there any twisty roads out in the GA area? I see you have a gs500. If I move, I don't want to sell my Ninja, but if I'm just going to be riding straight on city roads I might have to buy something else
