changing thermostat question..help with leaking
I've taken this darn thermostat housing off three times in a few days already, due to leaking.

First time, I've clean out the old gray silicone from the factory. Bought some Permatex sealer around the housing...It started leaking on the bottom of the outside housing.

I took it off again and this time using only the paper gasket got from Autozone. Well, it does not leak around the edge or the housing, but from the top bolt. I came out of the top bolt, I've tried tightening it up, no help.

Today, I've bought some tread sealant, applied around the top bolt, left on for four hours to dry, still leaking out water.

Should I just take it out again, use the liquid Permatex and the sealant on the top bolt??

Take it off again and make sure that the thermostat is cleaned up because it probably still has sealant on it.

Make sure everything is cleaned and all surfaces are leveled and not cracked. If you over tightened the screws you may have cracked the thermostat housing.

What sealant are you using too? Make sure it can withstand the heat.

Some teflon tape around the bolts wouldn't hurt either.

I used the Permatex gray sealant. The leak stop for today when I used the thread sealer..we will see in the next few days.
