B13 manual steering rack, donor options? (Or just loop it?)
I'm looking to get rid of the power steering on my SE-R, old forum posts mention that the Sentra E steering rack is an option. Unfortunately, B13s in general are pretty scarce in the local yards, are there any other cars that a manual rack can be pulled from?

Also, assuming I do find an E or another suitable model, are any other parts needed or any issues with the swap? Steering column lines up OK, etc?

I keep going back and forth on this, pardon the pun. I may keep the PS rack and loop it, at least for now. The engine is coming out tonight (finally!) and this may be my one chance for a while to get this done.

I found this thread on another forum, great read just to see the pretty pictures. I think I'm probably leaning towards this route, putting the lines into a T then running this to a reservoir. Lines stay lubed, stray air bubbles can escape.

I found another thread elsewhere where an S13 owner did this, fitting size looks to be AN -6 according to the paperwork shown there. Does anyone know the proper fitting size on the B13 rack?

I'm trying to decide though if I actually will need threaded fittings other than what will go into the rack, would a barb fitting suffice? There should be minimal pressure, and as long as the hoses are clamped, it should be fine, I would expect?

Someone is selling one on here tswii is his name I believe. So you need the rack, the u joint that connects the rack to the steering column is different same with the brackets and bushing but I made the power steering brackets and bushing work. Also the boot the goes from the rack to the firewall covering the ujoint/steering column is different.

Also, you will either need to gut your powersteering pump to be able to retain it as a tensioner for the water pump belt or you can jsut find the correct length belt unbolt the waterpump pulley except for one bolt and swing it down to fit around the belt then swing it back into place and bolt it back down. If you decide to go that route I have the part # for the belt i used.

Heh, I was about to post that very link. And also, this one at MotoIQ which was the inspiration.

I may see about picking up a spare rack to do this to. My only problem at the moment is a lack of a welder and a hydraulic press. And also a place to put these. LOL You'd think a 2 car garage would be larger...

I feel you on the tiny two-car garage...

You're welcome to use my HF hydraulic press and I may even have a spare rack...no welder though.

I have depowered the rack in a friend's Z32 track car and my Z31 street car following the miata writeup. Works wonders, even with my Z have 18x9.5 and 265/35R18 up front. Road Atlanta and Tail of the Dragon approved.
