American B13 VS Mexican Tsuru construction quality--Please Read.
Hello guys, I am really concerned about my safety when driving my B13 specially knowing that it has no type of safety equipment other than our corny seatbelts. I am even more concerned after watching this video....

Anyone knows if our American B13's are constructed with the same quality as the Mexican Tsuru??

I am guessing certain components are different such as the bumper supports but i am not sure. Please feel free to express your knowledge about this or opinions.

I believe this has been discussed before, somewhere around here. Not sure if it was confirmed, but the thought is that the new B13's built in Mexico aren't up to US safety standards since they're no longer sold here. Not that the USDM B13 was ever the safest car built, but that new one folds up like a beer can.

I'm about to get self righteous, but safety standards really piss me off. It sucks that our safety standards are built around withstanding impacts from giant SUVs. Back in the day you could get crazy mileage out of a Ford Festiva. But you can't sell little, light weight, stripped down cars like that anymore because it doesn't have enough framing to withstand an impact from a Ford Excessive. So the little cars get heavier, fuel efficiency goes down, and the whole time the government is requiring stricter safety standards AND more stringent fuel standards.
I'm all for driving whatever you want, but it sucks that your giant car takes precedent over the fun, small cars that we used to buy.

What does this have to do with the thread? Me personally, I don't mind a car that has less than adequate safety marks. I've walked away from some crazy wrecks in cars that are supposedly death traps. I would suggest not running your Mexican sentra directly into a wall at high speed.

Sorry for the long post, the Halloween spirits are taking me early.

As mentioned, this has already been discussed. The newer Tsurus are cheapened down quite a bit for the Mexican market. I've ridden in a 2008 Tsuru taxi. There is nothing to them. Felt just like a beer can at only 5yrs old. I've T-boned the bed of a Ford Ranger in my last USA b13 at 60+ mph. I barely even got whiplash and there was zero damage beyond the front fenders. God's grace? Sure, but safety standards sure are blown out of proportion. I'm not the slightest bit nervous when I drive the car.

Back in the 70's into the 80's cars got small and fuel efficiency became important because gasoline became expensive. Then in the later 80's the price of crude oil dropped, gas dropped to $1.00/gallon and stayed in that territory for a long time. Everyone forgot about alternatives and "SUV" became a household term, then they got bigger, and bigger and bigger. Hence the increased safety measures we've witnessed over the last 20+ years.

Anyone been watching the price of crude oil lately? Deja Vu all over again?
