Fuel system noise/problem
I've been hearing a noise coming from the engine bay on the driver's side, near the master cylinder and air filter. Checked all the vacuum lines and they seem to be good, but it's been getting worse as time goes on... so much so that the noise (which used to be pretty faint hissing) is starting to sound like a grinding sound. Also, I've been smelling gas pretty bad inside my car and also under the hood.

I took a short video, and the noise can be heard from the 7 second mark to around 12 seconds. This is just turning the key to 'On', and the noise will continue if the car is running.

Any advice is appreciated... Could it be as simple as a fuel filter? i don't think it's the fuel pump, i can hear that kick in just before the noise starts. It seems the noise only happens when the fuel is being pumped through the system.

Thanks in advance.

must be the hamster starting to spin the wheel. Need some lubricant on the wheel and it will get rid of that noise

i would think a leak or it could just be the fuel going through the line. I know when I prime the car you can hear the fuel go right through the car into the engine its pretty obvious sound.

When was the last time you changed your fuel filter?

The car has 245k on it, with around 110k on the engine. I've owned it for a little over a year, and put 14k on it. Looking at the maintenance records (which go back to 2004 when it had 180k on it), the fuel pump (Walbro 255) was replaced when it had 190k (so 55k ago), the fuel filter and line replaced at 207k (38k ago), and fuel filter again replaced at 221k in 2007 (24k ago)... so most recent was 24k ago.

How long do they typically last? They aren't expensive so I may as well start there and see if that helps my mileage and the sound.
