Brake Pad Options for Trackdays?
I'm considering taking my B13 SE-R to a trackday or two this season, and am wondering what people are doing for brakes? I see that Carbotech has an XP10 and XP8 pad available for the SE-R, but they're around $300/set. I can't seem to find any other options out there (Hawk doesn't seem to have ANY applications for the B13). A search didn't turn up anything useful, it seems like lots of people just go to a bbk?

So for those of you who are doing trackdays or wheel to wheel, what pads are you using with the stock calipers? I would like to keep the brakes stock, as this may end up as a Chumpcar next year. I will replace the rotors and use Motul RBF600 with whatever pads I end up using.....

Thanks!

I should add that I would be tracking on street tires and stock suspension, aside from ST sway bars.

Most folks are going to upgrade to the stock brakes from an NX2000. Since I have a pile of regular B13 wheels, I'm going to be running the AD18 brakes on my car (stock B13 with ST front bar and RT615Ks on stock 14s) and plan on trying the XP8s up front. You really don't need a performance pad in the rear, as that is just going to tend to make the rears lock up. Normal parts store pads in the back should be fine.

Porterfield R4 - some of the best pads around and reasonably priced. They hold up to abuse during rallies. They may be a little harsh on rotors but well worth it. My Gti had several events on it and still has meat. My Se-r has ~2 events on em and plenty to go.

I run XP6 in the front, but with NX2000 calipers. You can squeak by on the street with XP6 pads if you want, XP8s should probably be changed out. I don't know whether XP6 would be adequate with the stock calipers and rotors. MCarp22 is correct, you don't have to buy track pads for the rear; I just use a good grade of street pad.

What track or tracks will you be running? Also what area are you in? I've street driven and tracked AX6, XP8, and XP10. Each have some real drawbacks depending on situation.

Nelson's Ledges

We have an old helipad that we hold tons of events at. Have 5 courses designed that we cycle through that are ~1.2-1.7 miles. Spent alot of time out there the last 2 years. Also alot of AX. I think I did >40 events last year and haven't raced at all so far this year

I have AX6 on the Elise... Haven't raced with them yet tho so no opinion.

Nelson is reallllllly easy on brakes. AX6 will be fine there. Head over to Beaverun and that story changes in a hurry. You'll need XP8s there (I'd avoid the 10's on street tires. I tried it, they are much harder to modulate on street tires, but are amazing on Hoosiers and are my current front pad).

By modulate you mean they would lock up too much?

What would you guys recommend for a turbo car? I'm running AD22's. Will be using street tires on a road course. Also, do you need to get new rotors as well when using pads only for the track? Reason I ask is because I know when you get new pads you also want to get new rotors because they both kind of meld to each other like a clutch.
