Harness Bar
Im not sure this is suppose to go here but what are you guys running for harness bars? I recently ditched my stock seatbelts because lets be honest if i crash with those im a dead man and they weigh to much since the car is going on a diet. I cant have the harness mounted to the floor its just not safe and also where are you mounting the side parts for the harness?

Thanks

When I was doing HPDEs, I had an autopower roll bar with a harness bar built in. I wrapped the shoulder straps around that bar and held it in with the buckles that came with the harness.

For the lap belts, I put eye bolts in and used snap hook ends to hook in. The driver's side eyebolt went into the stock seat belt mounting point (just yanked the stock bolt out, replaced it with the eyebolt). For the passenger side, I drilled a hole into the exhaust tunnel, and sandwiched the metal with a giant washer on the inside, and one of those SCCA approved backing plates on the outside.

For the sub straps, I replaced the ends with snap hook ends and shared mounting points with the lap belts.

I really dont want to do this ... But ... Most will frown on Harness without a roll bar ... I say do it right and get a basic roll bar , like the Autopower bolt in with the harness bar and be safe about it .... Everyone will have there own opinions ... thats mine ...

I will run a harness bar on my new cage, but up to now i have been using the rear seatbelt points fitted with eye bolts and clips on the harnesses. From memory the FIA suggests an angle on the harness from 20 degree's above horizontal to 45 degrees below horizontal so the rear belt points are normally ok, i have found though that the original bolt holes on S14's are too steep and have to be moved. Any more that 45 degrees may result in excessive downward pressure in an accident causing compression of the spine
I assume you are using a proper race seat with harness cut outs?

Get an Autopower bar at the very least.

I had a harness bar in my former car, and still used the factory seat belts over the harness. Stock belts are MUCH more comfortable for any non-track situation on top of being safer for a non-caged vehicle.

It did stiffen up the chassis though, and didn't weigh much (mine was aluminum).

Personally I don't care for Autopower's fitment, but it is definitely better than a harness bar for safety.

I don't like it either. The Kirk bars fit much tighter.

What do you guys think of the NRG Racing harness/roll bars? Do they need to be modified to fit at all? They are available in a Universal 47" and 49".

Also, what about the Schroth Rallye Belts? They don't need a harness bar because they use existing anchor points. Thoughts?

I'm not a fan of how the shoulder straps on those Rallye belts are permanently connected to the lap belts. It makes it very difficult to extricate yourself from the car quickly in case of a crash or fire.

Not to mention that they put a lot of stress on the seat backs and seat reclining mechanisms. It wouldn't be bad if you used them with a fixed back racing seat, but at that point you may as well just get a set of racing harnesses and mount the shoulder straps to a hard point behind the rear seats.

I used these when I still tracked my Cadillac CTS-V and they worked great. Not sure why, but some clubs may don't allow them though.
