Toyo RA1 treadlife
I am at the point where the SE-R only comes out for track days and meets. Last year I only put about 6000 miles on her. It is out of the garage for the first time this year. I am wondering if I could get away with running RA-1s as the "regular" tires and running the set of NT01's I have for track days. Also, if I do this should I have the NT01's shaved since I would always run the RA1's if it is raining at the track.

I posted here because you guys should be able to answer based on experience as opposed to hearsay.

I have run full tread RA-1's on the street. My roomate commutes daily on his. I use my Se-R for trips to and from events and in competition. 6000 miles is about what I would think would be reasonable to ask from them. Maybe slightly more. The RA-1 is a great tire. I would put it up against the NT01 any day. One set of full tread tires and a set of shaved tires would be a great idea. You could also bring a pair of the Toyos with you as spares or backups.

I'd have to ask why. If you've got dedicate track tires, I'd have a set of agressive street tires as wets. This is what I do with my track NX. I really hate driving Rcomps on the street, and I tend to chew through front tires too.

You can, but it diminishes the performance of the tire. They only have so many heat cycles in them and the rubber gets hard and loses grip over time. I'm not sure about the RA-1, but puncture resistance on r-comps are usually not as good as a street tire....ie. make sure your spare is road worthy ...
