Considering K-sports
I am trying to get involved with Auto-X and Road Racing. I am also looking to buy some version of K-sports. I know everyone recommends Progress because K-sports are crap, blah blah blah. Most of the people that say that also have no personal experience with either coilover. I like the idea of K-sports because they offer a large range of suspension adjustment and tuning at a bargain price, which I consider great for a newbie who wants to learn suspension tuning like me. K-sports offer both the basic version and a Road Race version of their coilovers. I can purchase both for cheaper than the Progress coilovers from the K-sport group buy POC. My buddy told me that the road race version of K-sports are not valved for our cars and that I should go with the basic K-sports. My question is, will that incorrect valving really effect the performance of the suspension? I ask this because you can adjust the damping of the suspension and I would think that would help if not alleviate the effects of improper valving. Is that a correct assumption or would I just be safer with the basic K-sports? If you don’t recommend K-sports for the position I am in please feel free to recommend a different type of coilover setup.

I am in the process of building custom shortned Koni's because my K-Sports blew valves in both front coilovers within a month of eachother. And I have only had them on the car for a little over a year. The bargain price comes with bargain craftsmanship and reliability. Do yourself a favor and stay away. If the Progress ones are too pricey, stick with some AGX's and call it a day.

I assume you were using them for DD? These will be solely used on my race car so they might last a bit longer. Even AGXs wont last super long when I start getting into the higher spring rates later on.

I have had 2 friends with them. They ride like ****, the difference from full soft to full stiff is not apparent. I am actually wondering if the adjustments actually even function??

The fronts blew within about 4 months of ownership and they have gotten ****ty customer service about getting them repaired.

I would stay away...even though it seems like you are trying to convince yourself they are a good deal. Just save your money for a while longer. The price difference between K Sports and Tien, Progress, Koni is negligable when you consider the added functionality, quality and service life.

Local guys with D2 (=Ksport) coilovers are very dissapointed with them. They run their cars on hillclimbs, circuits or some of them street too. I would never spend any money on D2 (=Ksports, whatever) products. Save money for Progress or Yellow Koni are good too.

I have had them on my race car for over a year and I will say they are ok for auto-x but the spring rates are way to low for road racing I was hitting the bump stops around most every corner I have never had any issue with valves or anything like that. and there is a noticeable difference from full soft to full stiff those other guys must be driving on very smooth roads then there would not be much to notice.

I would reccomend them only if it is all you can afford however there are much better options out there like the Koni option which I will likely be going to soon.

Thanks for the inputs guys. I will just wait and save up for some Koni 8611s with some stiff GC springs when I actually become a better driver......
