I'm doing my first road course event this weekend at Gateway International Raceway in St. Louis. I'm really excited, any advice or hints? It's being put on by the PCA. I'm running a '97 200SX stock sr20 w/ intake headers and exhaust on 16" American Racing Estrella's wrapped in Toyo proxes fz4.
This is the track. ![]() |

I'm an instructor..
many 'students' don't want to hear that you have to slow at first in order to be fast later. Concentrate on slow in/fast out of the corners and don't worry about your speed in the straights (It's not a drag race to the corners). I don;'t know how often I pass people or am filling their mirrors on 'HPDE' type days because they drag race to the corners but then almost stop for the turns. Once you get comfortable, the speed WILL follow. Don't be afraid to ask a ton of questions *that is why your instructor is there. ..and please get as many rides as possible from your instructor or other instructors.. it can help a ton! and remember, HAVE FUN! (I've been tracking 14 years, instructing for 8 and now W2W for 1 year in Spec Miata and ITA) |
