old NX2000 running extremely rough, please help
Just got an old NX2000 from my friend, it has seen better years. The interior needs to be redone completely, but before that I would like to get the engine taken care of. We have done a complete flush of the coolant system. (took about 4 flushes to get the rust out.) Put some fuel cleaner in the gas tank and it ran good for a bit and then went back to running really rough. It losses power around 2.5 -3K RPM, gets really jerky with insanely bad throttle response (have to stuff the pedal just to get it past the 2.5K RPM mark) every now and then it will even out and run good for a few minutes and then back to crap.

When I got it the cat was missing so I threw on a glass pack left it like that for the moment. The gas tank also has a slight leak in it. These are the only things I know that are definitely wrong with it.

If any one has any suggestions on what to do with it to get it at least running decent while I wait on the money to rebuild the engine and turbo it, I would appreciate it.

Thanks

New fuel filter, ignition components (might get away with cleaning the wires with alcohol).

Sea Foam in the intake while the engine is running, and in the tank. Should look up how to do this.

Fuel leak may be a hose.

Set ignition timing.

Clean MAF. Look this one up, too.

What that guy said ^^^

Plus check your injectors, if it sat for long enough they could be sticking

I agree with most on here. Do at least a cheap tune up with plugs, dist cap, rotor, pcv valve and fuel filter. Fix your gas tank leak put some new gas in the tank and give that a try. Prob. wouldn't hurt to buy some maf cleaner and spray that down on the inside.

Usually when the plug wires are bad it will run like crap all of the time not just some of the time. If the above does not solve the problem then i would look into getting some plug wires. Setting the timing and re grounding the maf isn't a bad idea either.

Oh yeah, definitely reground the MAF.

No car forum is going to spoon feed you... do a search on the suggestions.

OK, looks like the stock ignition timing is 15degrees. I will get back when all of these fixes have been accomplished.

Thanks All
