NX2000 Awd Conversion

I'm starting a build thread for my 91 Nissan NX2000 which will consist of 2 stages. Stage 1 is Gtir engine swap and Stage 2 is awd conversion. I will begin stage one now but I won't be starting stage 2 until next winter due to lack of funds since i'm going to school.

I decided to try the awd now so we will see if I can get it done before spring.

Got the car in the garage and started work!


Wheels off and on stands.


Radiator/e-fan, Downpipe and intercooler removed


Almost all the wires and hoses are disconnected

Engine Arrived at 10:30am!!!! I have pics on my phone of the semi delivery the engine.

Also incase anyone was wondering the Gti-r awd front axles do fit and bolt up to the nx hubs. If you guys want me to see if a certain Gti-r part that I have will fit on the NX let me know and i'll try it out.

nope starter went out the day before I was suppose to trade and I decided I couldn't part with it anymore

Have fun and good luck with a awesome and very capable motor! What are your plans? If your going with a bigger turbo or some upgrades you should probably upgrade the head gasket and head studs.........Like I am doing now, so I can run a silly amount of boost! Especially since its out.

Good luck with AWD conversion. Im doing something similar (DET swap to P10 Primera GT 4x4). I need to swap DET engine, GTiR tranny, GTiR shifter, axles, etc.

For now i'm just replacing the following parts

Radiator hoses (ordered)
OEM waterpump (ordered)
NGK Spark plugs (ordered)
HKS replacement 2layer filter element
Oil pan gasket
Valve cover gasket
Thermostat (installed)
Oil pump (maybe)

I want to install it and make sure everything runs good then next winter when I attempt the awd I will do headgasket, studs, diff turbo and some other things.

One of the bolts broke for the passenger side axle bracket so I had to drop the engine down since I couldn't get the axle out.


My jacks were maxed out so it just barely fit underneath.




I have to wait for the new parts to arrive before I can install the Gti-r engine so I decided to clean up the engine bay.

Started sanding, I have a can of matching paint laying around that I will spray it with once done.

I'm going to be parting out my 91 SR20de with bluebird turbo kit so If your interested in any parts pm me. Engine it self has around 150,000 miles. I have 370 injectors, Jim wolf technology ecu, turbo manifold, top mount intercooler piping and intercooler. I will be keeping the t25 with lines as well as the Nology plug wires, oil cooler, HKS bov and maybe the unorthodox pullies if I can make them fit the gti-r engine.







I also have the Gti-r top mount and fuel pump with sending unit i'm selling.

Basically today I just cleaned up the engine bay some more so far and compared the Pulsar Gti-r shifter/linkage to a 91 NX2000.

The longer one is from the NX (on the left) and the shorter is the Pulsar Gti-r (on the right). If you notice they have similar bends but one is longer. Right now it looks like the reason the Gti-r linkage is shorter is because the linkage on the awd transmission sticks a couple inches further towards the firewall compared to the fwd tranny. I could be wrong since I don't have the measurements of the gtir firewall to shifter but I'll see if I can find out the exact reason this weekend.




If someone would take a section out of the middle of the NX shift linkage I believe it would work perfect with the Gti-r awd transmission. The Gti-r shifter/linkage also bolts up exactly the same on the NX bodies as it would on the Gti-r

I'm undecided to try awd now or later, I have to save up for tuition in august again so i'm limited on parts to buy and I would like to drive it this spring.

Passenger Mount

In order for the passenger side mount to work you will have to swap the mount/brackets between vehicles or widen the mount on your sentra/nx chassis. The brackets itself below are interchangeable but the tops (mount it self) aren't so you can't swap mounts on brackets. Now there are 2 benefits to using the Gti-r mount. 1 is weight reduction and the other is beefier mount. The NX mount/bracket and hardware weighs in at 4lb 12.6oz but the Gti-r mount/bracket and hardware weighs 3lb 10.8oz. The diameter of the mount it self look to be the same but the width of the Gti-r mount is bigger so you can't just swap inserts to work.

Engine/tranny Fitment

I started some mockup so far today.


I removed my front sway bar to get it this close but its about a 1" forward and around 2" down from aligning to bolt in the passenger mount.


I have the Gti-r shifter/linkage currently bolted up but you can see how much further it needs to go back.


Now from what I've researched the Gti-r did not have a front sub frame or dog bone like are b13 chassis. Everything was just bolted to the chassis itself which brings me to my next finding. The reason the engine is off as much as it is has to due with are sub frame. As you can see below the transmission is rubbing on it right now. Now the easiest thing to do to make clearance is just drop the sub frame and notch it to clear which I will be starting on yet tonight.


As of now the steering rack is clearing but it may need to be moved up an inch or so.
