Question New York Residents & Yankee's Fans who remember the Late 1970's and Early 1980's

Who was the Yankee's biggest rival during the late 70's and early 80's.

I still think it's the Sox bro. '78 was the Boston Massacre, they referred to Yankees Stadium as the Bronx Zoo because there were so many fights in the stands. Also, during the late 60s and early 70s, the Yankees were second division while the Sox lead the league. Late 70s was when the Yanks made a comeback with the Boston Massacre.

Yanks were behind 14.5 games, they had a winning streak and when they faced the Sox in the Series, they were 4 games behind. They won 4 straight games 15-3, 13-2, 7-0 & 7-4. The 3rd game was a shutout.

And I'm not even a Yankee fan bro. I was born in Brooklyn & lived in Queens, so it's all about the Mets for me.

I'm a Mets fan too, ever since the summer 1986 when I found out my Dwight Gooden baseball card might be worth $5 by the end of the year. Then he, Ojeda, Fernandez and Darling were in a story in Sports Illustrated...

what about the team the Yanks played 4 times in 5 years in the ALCS, and the pine tar incident? I'm not talking about for the fans, I'm talking about the players thoughts on the rivalry... What would Gossage, Jackson and Billy Martin say was their most hated team to play back then?

The pine tar thing was with the Kansas City Royals and George Brett. That wasn't during the playoffs though.

Dodgers? Didn't they meet them in the world series like 3 times? Even though they were a NL team I would say LA.
