NY 907a salvage title process..?
i was at the junk yard last Friday looking for a window switch for a ford exploder.. i looked to my left and there it was a new arrival 1993 XE one owner.. the owner junked it because of a bad fuel pump luckily I'm good friends with the sales guy and asked him about the car.. i looked at it and it only had 83k on the odo zero rust looked like it was kept in a garage i couldn't resist and i got the entire car for 600 and I'm going this Friday to pick her up... has any one in the NY area ever done this? if so what is the process for a 907 title the guy said he was going to start me off with the form i need to mail out but then what do i have to do??

Before you salvage title the thing try to get the original. Whatever you do don't start working on it if you are going to do it. Most states require you to get a hold of the previous owner (hopefully JY has the bill of sale, this is why you loose $100's for not having the title when selling to a JY) then they either send you a letter stating they have no interest in the car.

I did this with a car from CA when I live in NV. Takes a long ass time (took me about 12 months). If all goes well you will get a clean title. If you go salvage title, make sure you get the bill of sale from the JY. Then you fix it, make sure it can pass inspection both emissions and safety.

Your DOT, Tax office, or department of licensing should have all the documents you need for both salvage and clear title applications and what you have to do.
