Hello from Australia.
So I was driving my 180 down the highway 3000rpm in 5th and the timing chain snaps. attempting to replace with engine still in. New timing chain is twice the size of what I pulled out of my motor, it also has no indication links. Either it is the wrong chain or half of mine is in the motor. Does anybody have any information about how many links are in a sr20 timing chain, where to start putting it on and how many links between each cog? Also any tips appreciated!

First off. Are you sure you didnt bend the valves? Chain sounds like it might not be the right one.

G'day mate (sry had to)

IIRC, there's like 62 links on the SR chain.

Awesome!! Thanks mate!! So I have the right chain, now what the hell do I do without any indication links haha. Head not off yet had to work last weekend. But it is ready to come off, another problem I face... what size and pattern are sr head bolts?? 14mm will not grab. Took out timing chain tensioner to find 2 big cracks in the casing. Still praying my valves aren't bent.

I have been researching. Have found out that the exhaust indicator should be positioned to 1 o clock, the intake gear indicator should be set to 10 o clock with 20 pins or 11 links between the two indicators, crank pulley must be at tdc and it doesn't matter where I start the chain as long as it is in the middle of one link on the crank gear indicator. can anybody verify this?
