400 torque
Hi guys I don't post much on the forum because almost everything I ever needed to know was covered, but I would like to discuss the gtir weak gearbox case and get some input, I am just about to finish my ve head install along with a borgwarner 8375. The reason I went with that turbo was reading jpsr20 post when he made 5**hp on 18psi with his custom housing 8875. his torque figures remained in the low 400s. Miko a few years ago whilst discussing pulstars (red pulsar out of jam) build mentioned a gt35 usually has 75-90 difference between torque and horsepower and that when your turbo is to big for your target you see an increase in this separation. My previous setup was a t3/t4 50 trim on a stock gtir head @24 psi I did 11.7 in the 1320 @118mph with a horrible 1.9 60ft we have no 4wd dyno in Barbados and I estimate based on injector consumption and afm voltage the car was between 450-500hp, at that power level the car had to be around 400 tq, the box took it like a champ, all stock gear box with just 85-140 gear oil. I plan to brace the gearbox case shortly but I have no plans on a gearset. I was wondering how much hp do you guys feel is possible from a sr16 cam motor reving to 8700 rpm with 400 tq as the limiting factor, also is my 400 torque theory flawed with regards to box life. I also noted coheed stated that he started to kill P11 boxes around 400 tq. Any input would be appreciated.

400tq is not the limit of the p11 box.... What transmission are you using now?

A met a guy who did 10.3 on stock box with a welded case on slicks 133mph. I am no longer worried about the case.

I'm using a stock gear box with around 330 tq and the only thing that failed is 1st gear...there was no tooth left on that pinion launching at 10 psi with street tires.

You may have more luck on some overseas pulsar forums. Most of us here are in the US and have no experience with the AWD gear boxes.

However if your current box is holding up go ahead and drive it untill it goes out on you. Sadly nissans downfall is in gear boxes. Their boxes have three main flaws.

1. The weak spot in the case near the front axles tend to crack under wheel hop or really hard launching. You can fix this with welding/filling in the holes near that section.

2. The gear stacks seperate during high torque situation. People have made gear stack braces that replace the top gear and help keep the stacks together under high torque situations.

3. The gears are weak (3rd gear for most of us) and the teeth just break off. Par gears or getting your gears treated will help with this.

Onto getting some estimated HP and TQ numbers. You could try using a program called virtual dyno. http://www.virtualdyno.net/

You will need a way to data log and convert the log to a .csv file. It is simple enough and alot of us use it to see gains from different mods. If used properly it should be accurate within -10,+10-hp.

That's simple math. If you can hold the 400 TQ to your 8,700 RPM redline then you will make 663 HP.

feasible you think? with a well matched turbo?

Totally feasible with boost-by-rpm control. Size the turbo for the max power you want to make, and err on the side of over-sized. It will help keep the torque under control and avoid running out of air up top where you need it most.

The turbo I went with is 60/83 compressor 76/68 turbine 68lbs, hoping to get into the 600hp range before 25psi with the sr16 cams
