Help on cams please, rebuild soon!
Hi people, im new to the forum and was after a bit of advice, as ive read through various threads and find some contradicting info.....im a bit confused.com.
I have a GTIR, and its booked in for a rebuild in 6 weeks time. Its having a BC stroker kit fitted, (91mm crank, 89mm pistons and rods) with all the necessaries, and after running in i will swap to a GT35 and ave it re-mapped. The issue im having is...cams. The car will be driven on the street, (not all the time, but it will be used), and with quite a bit of track work too (plan to enter into a few of the nippon challenge events). Can i use the BC stage 3 cams, if i use springs and retainers. Ive read somewhere i can, and others say you CANT use the BC stage 3's on the GTIR full stop. some help would be greatly appreciated, as i want to order parts soon. Also, should i i oversized valves? Please guys, i need some clarity. BC stage 3's, yes or no!

I was under the impression that no regular SR20 cams work for the GTi-R engine (they don't fit?) but I'm not entirely sure. Someone else will certainly have a definitive answer for you soon though.

On BC website it says 'Also fits GTiR cylinder head', yet ive heard people say, like yourself, they wont work. See why im confused!!! Also, ive heard that these cams are not that great at making power, would these be better than than the HKS 264's for example? Thanks for the help.

I would take BC's word for it. If they say it works, I'd be inclined to believe them. Please someone else must know for sure if they will work. Please chime in.

As for their comparison to the HKS cams... Someone else will have to answer that as well. All I know is that I think the BC3 cams are comparable to the JWT S4 cams (right guys?).

As for making power... Yes! They are extremely helpful on turbo motors for making power even though they are really designed as N/A cams from what I recall.

The slope of the lobes are generally shaped a little different because of the solid lifters. This can also cause premature wear on the cam if not used properly.
I would push more towards a Tomei or JWT they have specific to solid lifter cams
