ThermoBlok Spacers Highport vs. Lowport
A Buddy of mine, blairellis, reminded me about Thermoblok Spacers and pointed to my TB Heater Bypass thread. He mentioned that this should be another step to eliminating Intake Manifold heat.

Now I've heard of these plenty of times, but I never really looked at the numbers and dyno graphs. When I paid closer attention I noticed the Highport gains and was like , and low port gains .

How it works

Group Buy is on!

Comparison

Highport Kit

This dyno chart shows the results from the installation of a ThermoBlok kit on a '93 Nissan NX2000 with I/H/E, cams, and UD pulleys. The tests were done on the same car and same day, same gear, etc, immediately following the spacer installation. The vehicle was fully warmed up for both tests and no other modifications were done.

RESULTS: maximum gain 9.1 whp and 6.9 ft-lbs of torque.

Lowport Kit

This dyno chart shows the results from the installation of a ThermoBlok plenum and throttle body spacer only on a '96 Nissan 200SX SE-R with I/H/E. We have since installed the complete kit, but have not had the opportunity to get a final dyno run with the complete kit. The gains were still respectable considering only a partial kit was installed. We would expect significant additional gains with the installation of the lower manifold spacer since it would be responsible for the majority of the heat insulation from the cylinder head. The tests were done on the same car and same day, same gear, etc, immediately following the spacer installation. The vehicle was fully warmed up for both tests and no other modifications were done.

RESULTS: maximum gain 3.9 whp and 3.1 ft-lbs of torque.

Onto the Question

Why did the Highport score 5 more WHP? Is it because it had more mods? Or are the high ports just more sustainable to heat since the intake manifold is closer to the engine and kinda wrapped in by intake runners, thus this mod works better?

They did mention that a partial kit was only installed on the lowport.. I wonder if thats the case hehe.

The lowport kit was only partially installed for the test.

They do say that the whole kit was not installed, for some odd reason. Or they are trying to hide something. I have the kit but never had a dyno to compare, or any for that matter. It would seem weird that it would not gain a little more HP with the complete kit.

When i open my hood you can let your hand sit on the intake plenum and notice that it is a lot cooler than the valve cover though. I have never compared them to one that does not have them though either. Maybe i will take some temps comparing the two.

Why is the Highport temp graph under the Lowport Dyno?
And would the cooling issue that NX's have benefited more than a Highport SER?

Thats what I'm worried about, that they might be hiding something, or maybe they just didn't have time to install it all the way? But bigger numbers means more interested buyers...

High port numbers are under the lowport dyno because thats the only thing they had on their website.

Well I went ahead and ordered the set, but ended up ordering the Roller Rocker set... DOH.

You also have to remember about the smaller intake cam on the lowport. Add the ~8whp from the highport cam in the lowport and see what it comes out to.

So then this does bring me to the point of saying that if I match the mods of the NX, a lowport will get about the same amount of gains.

For the NX it does say that it has Cams

Also look at what I found on their website...

Text tag for the picture is "Illegal & Dangerous - The Fast & The Furious Crowd"

I like how a 98 SE-R is in there

I am thinking that they did not find an equal amount of gain on the Lowport due to not having the same mods. So they decided to only include the TB spacer and coolant bypass dyno. Either way they seem like a good mod to me, it is one of those things that just add up as you do other mods. I am not going to take mine out, thats for sure.
