got the jdm highport swap all done except
the distributor. The one on my new engine is different. I think it may be an OBD II one, because it has a circular thin disk under the rotor, and the one from my old engine doesn't have the disk. he tried to put my old one in and it fits, but he said that the rotor metal side (when he took the dizzy off my old motor) is pointing towards the lower firewall, while the dizzy on the JDm engine is pointing straignt down. he says if he uses the old dizzy now, it will mess up the timing.

he says he can't use the oldone yet until he changes out the key way from the new one to the old.

I don't know. can he just put the old distributor in, or does he have to do all that?

i have a 1993 sentra se-r with a highport.

thanks.

UPDATE

he did all that with the dizzy, now the engine turns over but won't start.

Just a question, who is "he"? Mechanic? Friend?

Would probably need more then just what you posted if you are looking for answers. Possibly why you haven't had any yet. Need to know about the engine, not just the car.

the distributors are keyed so they only fit one way and all CAS and distributors from all sr20s will fit into all sr20 cams (with the exception of the RWD VTC) if he took the roll pin out and re-keyed the distributor then the CAS will be reading 180deg off and wont let it run correct. yes you can use your usdm dizzy with the jdm motor.

As nissanboi said, use the USDM distributor as is and it will work.

Your mechanic friend is an idiot. The reason they are pointed in different areas is because the distributor difference from obd1 and obd2, distributor cap differences and so on.

Just put your old distributor back on and be done with it. No need to question it or any of that. As long as its installed correctly it will only go in one way to be fully seated against the mounting points on the head.

^^^ Yeah what he said use your stock (usdm) dizzy. You are also using the stock wiring harness correct?

yes. stock harness. the only thing i'm wanting to know, is if i use my stock dizzy, it doesn't seat all the way in, until i turn the rotor to the position where the rotor from the new engine left off. Is that gonna cause any timing issues?

another update. it starts now, by using starter spray. as soon as he stops spraying, the engine shuts off.

he says the engine runs very strong. It is a 1991 - 1993 highport with an electronic dizzy (OBDII?). The whole swap went smooth. Except for the dizzy.

you have your fuel lines hooked up wrong. Fuel filter to the rail, from the pressure regulator down to the return line.

After that, whalla

"He" is a mechanic. He says he never worked on an SR20 before. I mainly got him just to change the engine out.
