Overheating issues...
So after my 01 SE sat for 40 months I decided to flush the cooling system while I was shitting around with everything... since then I've had some overheating issues. Replaced the cap and thermostat and flushed it again yet I am still having issues occasionally. Anybody have any ideas on to what is causing this? Coolant checked to -20 degrees btw and this has happened 3 times in 2.5 months. First time I admit I was gettin on it and blew a rear coolant hose loose, second sitting still talking to friends at a cruise, third tonight sitting in traffic on my way home from work. Car has arp head studs and a cometic gasket. Checked oil no coolant. I'm stumped...

I looked down the oil filler and didn't notice anything... guess I should pop the valve cover and look.

1) Are your fans working

2) What kind of coolant are you using

- I made the mistake of getting GM "Dex-Cool" coolant for my '92 VVL and it overheated until I got rid of that crap, replaced with distilled water and a bottle or Redline water-wetter.. no issues after that

Fans are working... coolant is Supertech Walmart brand. However thought I'd mention, I used Kia coolant from work the first time. Didn't think nothing of it. It's been flushed out though.

You should consider adding a bottle of Redline water-wetter to your coolant resevoir.. can drop temps in there up to 15-20 degrees.. its about $12 at autozone or advanced auto parts.

My Cometic gasket failed b/w a coolant passage and the cylinder and would pressurize the cooling system to the point that an air pocket would form thus causing overheating when the cooling system got airlocked.

Bad cometic HG?
